All this week we are celebrating local council clerks, but not everyone knows what it is local councils, or their clerks, actually do. To help with that, the SLCC Educational Trust has created this useful video. It explains how town, parish, and community councils work, what they can (and can’t) do, and how everyday people can get involved.
Your voice can shape your council — and your community.

Parish Council Meeting Update – 20 May 2026

Councillors elected Cllr Paul Irwin as Chair of the Parish Council for 2026/27 and Cllr Eamon Dorrian as Vice-Chair. Councillors thanked outgoing Chair Cllr Steve Walker for his dedication and service over the past year.

Councillors approved the year-end governance and accounting statements for 2025/26 following completion of the internal audit. The period for the exercise of public rights will run from 3 June to 14 July 2026.

The Council considered a planning application at Waddesdon Manor and raised no objections. Councillors also discussed progress on the Spatial Settlement Plan and the emerging Strategic Plan for 2026-2030.

Good progress continues on the Skatepark Safety Renewal and Replacement Project. Funding has been secured through HS2, and the project will be delivered in two phases:

1. Removal of the existing skate equipment and resurfacing of the site.
2. Construction of new skate facilities designed in consultation with local young people and the school.

Quotes will now be submitted to HS2 for final approval before works commence.

Buckinghamshire Council provided updates on upcoming roadworks, including repairs at Fleet Marston, the temporary closure of Frederick Street for Thames Water works, and planned resurfacing works on Baker Street and Chestnut Close.
