A new council housebuilding comeback and a new generation of genuinely affordable homes.

The aim is simple: help families trapped in temporary accommodation or stuck on housing waiting lists move into safe, secure homes of their own.

No child should be raised in a hostel room, and no family should wait ten years for a front door of their own.

Nearly £10 billion will go to councils and housing associations to build genuinely affordable homes, most of them for social rent. Councils built this country out of a housing crisis once before. Act properly and trust them to get on with it, and they will do it again.

More council homes. More secure futures. A safe, affordable home for every family who needs one. 🇬🇧

One month of Number 10 North and a new way of doing government.

The aim is simple: move power out of Westminster and put more decisions into the hands of the people and communities they affect.

From giving regional mayors greater influence and investment powers, to protecting local bus services, fast-tracking new homes and stations, and giving councils more control over their high streets decisions about local growth should be made closer to home.

One month in, Number 10 North is already changing how government works and putting local communities at the heart of decision-making.

More local power. More local investment. Decisions made closer to the people they impact. 🇬🇧

🌱 British farmers are on the front line of a changing climate.
After one of the driest summers on record, farmers are facing earlier harvests, smaller crops, lower yields and rising costs. And this isn’t just a farming issue our ability to produce our own food is a matter of national security. 🇬🇧
With this now the third drought in five years, farmers shouldn’t be expected to carry the risk alone.
£65 million of additional support will help farmers access water when it’s scarce and invest in farm reservoirs to better prepare for future droughts.
We need to protect British farming, strengthen our food security and support the people working every day to put food on our tables. 🚜🌾

🏠 Putting cowboy builders out of business.
Hardworking families deserve to know their money is protected when paying for work on their homes. New measures will help protect payments, make it easier to identify trusted tradespeople and stop rogue builders from taking advantage.
Most builders are hardworking, honest professionals — it’s the cowboys giving the industry a bad name that need tackling.
More protection, more accountability and more peace of mind for homeowners. 🏡👏
