It was a great honour and a pleasure to meet our wonderful friends, the Rt Hon Miatta Fahnbulleh MP, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, and Uma Kumaran MP, Minister at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, at a special reception in the garden of 10 Downing Street.

A wonderful evening of meaningful conversations, great networking and positive discussions about the future.

There is so much we can achieve when we work together with a shared commitment to unity, opportunity and stronger communities.

Free bus passes are a lifeline for so many people helping older and disabled residents stay independent, connected and able to get where they need to go. 🚌
We’re protecting free bus travel and making sure public transport works for the people who rely on it most. Better, more affordable buses mean stronger communities and more freedom to get around.

💷 The cost of living is still putting real pressure on households across the country and every saving matters.
From cutting tax on electricity bills and keeping bus fares capped at £2 in England, to making subscriptions easier to cancel and cracking down on misleading discounts, the focus is on putting more money back into people’s pockets.
Support for pubs, clubs and music venues matters too, with business rates being cut by 20% to give our hospitality sector some much-needed breathing space.
These measures won’t solve everything overnight but together, they can make everyday life that little bit more affordable.
Less pressure. More breathing space. A Britain where people can feel better off. 🇬🇧
Now, if only something could be done about the price of Freddos… 😅

A new council housebuilding comeback and a new generation of genuinely affordable homes.

The aim is simple: help families trapped in temporary accommodation or stuck on housing waiting lists move into safe, secure homes of their own.

No child should be raised in a hostel room, and no family should wait ten years for a front door of their own.

Nearly £10 billion will go to councils and housing associations to build genuinely affordable homes, most of them for social rent. Councils built this country out of a housing crisis once before. Act properly and trust them to get on with it, and they will do it again.

More council homes. More secure futures. A safe, affordable home for every family who needs one. 🇬🇧
