Today, we remember firefighters John Davies and David Morris who tragically lost their lives on 6th September 1993, at Sun Valley on Grandstand Road in Hereford.

John was a Retained Firefighter at Leominster and David a Wholetime Firefighter at Hereford.

We will remember them.

Even though we have experienced some sort of phenomena coming out of the sky over the last 24 hours. ☔️🌧️, please continue to observe that the land is still very much susceptible to wildfires and is still very dry.

Everyone heading to the Sunshine Festival (Upton) 2026, we wish you a safe and enjoyable festival. Please avoid using disposable BBQ’s where possible and observe the general camping rules set not only by the Festival itself but also safety advice provided below:

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Fire Control are the unsung heroes.

They are dealing with all the pressures of the incidents going on within and across the borders with Amazing professionalism and dedicating resources and sourcing additional resources from other services!

Fire Control ❤️ They are the first point of contact and dedicate resources where they can.
A Jigsaw puzzle when pieces don’t fit, they make it slot into place!

🚒 Another reminder of just how quickly things can escalate in these conditions.

We’ve just returned from an open fire in Berrow, which started while a tractor was mowing grass. The fire quickly spread, even jumping across the road into another field of standing grass.

Thankfully, crews were able to get on top of it before it could spread any further, with assistance from neighbouring appliances from Ledbury, Pershore, Evesham, Worcester and Ross-on-Wye. 👨‍🚒🔥

A huge thank you also goes to a local tractor operator who assisted by creating fire breaks, helping to prevent the fire from spreading further. 🚜👏

A government emergency message has also been sent to mobile phones. There’s no need to be alarmed, but please take it seriously and remain sensible and vigilant about your surroundings.

With conditions as dry as they are, one spark can quickly turn into a significant fire. Machinery operating in dry grass can create sparks and heat capable of starting fires, so please take extra care.

Stay safe, stay alert and help us prevent these fires before they start. 🚒🔥
