The PCC for Bedfordshire is asking residents to take part in a survey to help improve support services for victims of crime across the county.

The PCC is keen to hear from as many people as possible, whether they reported the incident to the police or chose not to. Responses will help identify what is working well, where improvements are needed and how agencies can better support victims throughout their journey.

The survey closes on 17 August.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Parish Council Update
This Evening's Meeting

Firstly, it was fantastic to see such a strong turnout at tonightโ€™s meeting.

A larger attendance meant even more community ideas, concerns and suggestions could be heard and discussed.

Thank you to everyone who attended. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

๐ŸŸข Green Area Responsibilities

One of the key topics discussed was responsibility for the green spaces within our parish.

It appears that Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) is currently in the process of reallocating responsibility for these areas following a change of contractor. The information was only made available to Sundon Parish Council (SPC) at the end of today, so councillors are now reviewing the details.

Once the arrangements and responsibilities are fully understood, we will provide a clear update to residents.

๐ŸŸข Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)

We also discussed ongoing anti-social behaviour around Sundon Pit and concerns regarding speeding vehicles using routes through our parish.

Cllr Mardle has contacted local authorities to seek support for establishing a Community Speed Watch initiative.

Cllr Merridan has secured funding for a parish Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

Our local MP will be visiting the area alongside Bedfordshire Police to assess the issues surrounding Sundon Pit and the anti-social behaviour linked to the site.

The Parish Council stressed that community reporting is essential. Without reports from residents, there is very little evidence available to help us pursue concerns and seek action from the relevant authorities.

๐ŸŸข Damage to Roads and Verges

Residents also raised concerns regarding the severe damage being caused to local roads and verges by LGVs accessing development sites in neighbouring parishes.

Cllr Mardle advised that she has already raised these concerns with our local MP and encouraged residents to continue reporting issues through FixMyStreet, as this remains the most effective route for recording highway defects.

If residents have reports that have been rejected or remain unresolved, these can be forwarded to the SPC Clerk, who can assist in pursuing the matter with Highways.

๐ŸŸข Christmas Tree Confirmed ๐ŸŽ„

On a more positive note, we are delighted to confirm that the village Christmas tree has been officially reserved.

A well-established 10โ€“12ft Norwegian Spruce will be planted by Majestic Trees this autumn.

This festive feature was originally funded by the community four years ago, creating a tradition that SPC is proud to preserve for future generations.

๐ŸŸข Supporting Our Friendship Club

Thinking about future generations and those who have helped shape our community over many years!

Our local Friendship Club approached SPC for assistance with funding a Christmas meal for its members.

Councillors unanimously agreed to provide a ยฃ200 donation towards the event.

To help build on this support, our resident quiz master Alan has proposed an autumn Bingo Evening to raise additional funds for the Friendship Club's festive celebrations.

Alan and Cllr Mardle have formed a working party to organise the event.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Reinforcing the importance of community reporting.

๐Ÿ”„ Working together collectively is the only way we stand a chance at achieving the best possible outcomes for our parish.

๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Sundon Parish Council can take note and investigate concerns. However, without community reporting, cannot guarantee support or action from local authorities.

๐Ÿš” Bedfordshire Police have urged all residents to report any ASB witnessed within our community to:

https://www.beds.police.uk/contact/af/contact-us-beta/contact-us/

๐Ÿข Central Bedfordshire Council have likewise advised our parish to log any ASB concerns using the following link:

๐Ÿ“ฃ IMPORTANT LOCAL PLAN CONSULTATION COMING ON THE 6TH OF JULY

Central Bedfordshire Council will launch a consultation on submitted sites as part of the new Local Plan on the 6th of July. This will run until the 17th of August.

This stage of the consultation will focus on sites that have been put forward for possible inclusion in the Local Plan. The Council is keen to hear resident's views on the sites that have been submitted including any local concerns about particular sites.

This will be an important consultation to respond to as not every site put forward by developers will be included in the Local Plan and we need to help shape where development would be best located.

โš ๏ธ Community Safety Alert โš ๏ธ

Please be aware of individuals targeting vulnerable members of our parish.

Yesterday, people claiming to be builders working at the White Hart on Streatley Road cold-called at an elderly residentโ€™s home, trying to convince her she needed work done.

Thankfully, this local legend spotted the situation and sent them packing. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿšจ Stay alert:

โšซ๏ธ Do not agree to unsolicited work

โšซ๏ธ Always check ID and credentials

โšซ๏ธ Talk to neighbours and report anything suspicious

With reports of ASB including vandalism of a residents property in our parish. I am urging all parents and carers to have a chat with their children.

A group of white male youths aged 14-15 were seen fleeing up the hill towards Sundon Village. After multiple incidents impacting this family they are installing cameras to deter further ASB.

Although these youths may not be linked to anyone in Sundon. It is very disappointing anyone, especially a family in our community, is feeling unsafe in their own home!

Please do speak to your children! As after speaking to mine, I still cannot think of a group of boys in that age bracket within our community?

Please, letโ€™s show this family Sundon is a great place to raise your children! ๐Ÿ’œ

Thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
Cllr Nicola Mardle

A major incident has been declared, and the A&E departments at both Bedford Hospital and Luton & Dunstable Hospital are currently treating the 89 casualties reported so far.

Following this eveningโ€™s tragic events, anyone planning to travel on Thameslink services this weekend is advised to check before travelling.

As a community, our thoughts are with the family of the confirmed victim and with everyone affected by todayโ€™s tragic incident.

Air ambulances have been sent to the scene, while Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue has warned people to avoid the area. Follow the latest on this breaking story.
