White speckles are appearing on the cliffs again as the gannets and fulmars return.

The cliffs at Hermaness were empty of birds today, and washed clean of guano. The second photo was taken back in June, at the height of the breeding season. The cliffs will fill once more with gannets in February.

The cliffs are now empty of gannets, with birds expected to return in February. Fulmars are back in force though, departing very briefly to moult.

The toilets are now closed for the winter, and will reopen in April. The reserve, however, is open year round.
