🔸STATEMENT ON BY-ELECTION RESULT🔸

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who put their trust in me and supported our campaign during this by-election. It has been a privilege to speak with so many residents and to hear your hopes and concerns for our community.

I offer my congratulations to the Reform candidate on their victory. While we may differ in our approach, I respect the outcome and the choice made by voters.

That said, it’s clear that this election became a referendum on national issues - particularly immigration - rather than the vital, local responsibilities of a county councillor: fixing roads, supporting schools, and protecting local services. These are the things that truly shape our daily lives, and they will still need serious attention long after the headlines move on.

I remain committed to our community and will continue working - in whatever capacity I can - to make sure local voices are heard and local priorities are not forgotten.

Thank you again to all who backed our campaign.

🔸TOMORROW IS POLLING DAY🔸

Our villages deserve better than broken promises and party politics.

Real people and local issues are lost in the noise of national politics - using national issues that your county councillor can’t do anything about!

🟦 Reform UK say they’re different, but they offer no real solutions — just noise. I can’t count the number of times people have said that they either can’t get in touch with their Reform county councillors, don’t get a response or never get told what they’re doing.

🟥 Labour had held this area for decades - but where’s the investment in our youth? Where are the safe spaces, activities, and opportunities for young people? They’ve let it slide for too long.

As an Independent, I answer to you - not a party HQ. I’m standing to:
✅ Fight for proper youth provision
✅ Demand real investment in our communities
✅ Represent your voice with honesty and action.

If you’re tired of being let down by the same old parties - vote for someone who puts people before politics.

If you want someone who:
• Listens before they speak
• Acts without party pressure
• Fights for what’s right, not what’s popular

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY:

Keeps you updated with what is going on and actually answers when you call or email….

🔸WHY VOTE FOR ANY OF THEM?🔸

While Reform UK pedals reckless promises that risk dividing our communities, and Labour continues to take us for granted with the same tired politics that have failed us for years, I’ve been here - on the ground, fighting for you.

For years, I’ve stood as a genuinely independent voice, unshackled by party lines, focused solely on delivering real results for local people. I don’t answer to a party boss in London - I answer to you.

I’ve lived and breathed the issues our communities face having lived in Easington Colliery and Haswell, and represented the area for the last 4 years as your county councillor. I know that every village, every street, every person deserves better than political slogans and broken promises.

This is not the time to gamble on dangerous promises or worn-out politics. It’s about choosing someone you can trust - someone who’s been visible, accessible, and relentless in standing up for what’s right.

If you are fed up with the old parties, I agree! But voting for the millionaire-led Reform is not the answer. You elected Reform councillors in May - and their immediate resignations have cost the council tax payers of County Durham over over £50,000. I can be the Independent common sense voice our community needs.

I’ve always been there for you. I always will be.

County Durham deserves stronger, smarter, safer leadership - not party games.

🔸RECENT POSTS ABOUT ME🔸

With the election less than a week away, I want to address something important.

There have been recent attempts by a local resident to spread rumours and derogatory comments about me and my family, just before the by-election next week - Thursday 7th August 2025 - and just as they did before the May 2025 election.

The person has blocked me on Facebook so I cannot see their posts, on their own page or in any Facebook group, and so therefore cannot defend myself and show that their claims are lies.

This has also been jumped on by my political opponents - and their supporters - to try to capitalise on these lies and to cast doubt on my character and intentions.

Let me be clear: I have done nothing wrong. These efforts are politically motivated, timed to distract and divide at a crucial moment.

To address the matter directly, I have been accused of diverting parish funds to Haswell & District Mencap, which was founded by my mother-in-law, almost 50 years ago.

The facts are this:

⦁ I am an employee of Haswell & District Mencap - not a director and have no strategic decision making powers for the charity.
⦁ At the time the £3,000 grant was made by Haswell Parish Council to Haswell & District Mencap, I was not Chair of Haswell Parish Council. (See First Image)
⦁ When the grant funding was discussed, as a parish councillor I declared an interest and left the room as to ensure there was no conflict of interest. (See Second Image)

I have also been accused of 'sabotage' of Haswell Parish Council.

The facts again are:

⦁ Myself, and several other parish councillors and the clerk, resigned from Haswell Parish Council due to a decision made by some parish councillors. This fact was highlighted in the annual-independent internal audit (See Third Image). Therefore, we felt our position was untenable and could not remain part of such a council - nothing to do with 'sabotage'.

It's a shame that this has to happen but it always does just before an election!

During my time as your county councillor, I was truly humbled by the support, encouragement, and feedback from so many people in our villages.

Whether it was said at a community meeting, shouted across the Co-op, or messaged to me at midnight - it has meant the world. It’s what’s kept me going through long council reports, road closures……and even bin collection chaos….😂

Your words remind me, and.show to ne, why I’ve chosen to stand again - and why I remain so passionate about our villages and their communities.

Over the next week my leaflet will be landing on your doorstep, and I’m excited to share why I am the right candidate for you in the upcoming county council by-election on Thursday 7th August 2025.

I’m standing as an independent candidate because I believe you and our villages deserve a councillor who puts PEOPLE before PARTY POLITICS.

Too often, Reform UK and Labour promise change but fall into the same old patterns, forgetting the real issues facing our communities once the election is over.

As an independent, I am free to stand up for you, not party lines.

I will fight for:

✅ Local investment that actually benefits our towns and villages
✅ Safer streets, cleaner spaces, and a stronger local voice
✅ Real accountability, with decisions made for the people who live here, not dictated by party headquarters in London.

But most importantly…I will be here, with you, and ready when you need me.

That’s what I’ve done - and that’s what I want to do again.

When you want someone to help you, I’ll be there - as I have been for the past 8 years.

This by-election is a chance for our villages to choose a better way forward, led by someone who will always put our communities first.

I am truly grateful for every single vote and for the warm conversations we’ve had on the doorstep so far. Together, we can build a council that listens, acts, and delivers.
