RESPONSE TO LOCAL ELECTION RESULTS

After time to reflect on last week’s local election, we remain deeply disappointed by the result. Many voters in Hull chose to leave Labour because of national politics and the Prime Minister.

We wish to thank all of our candidates and volunteers for their hard work, and to congratulate the councillors elected. Sadly, good, hard-working councillors and candidates have been punished as a result of the government’s poor decisions.

In the last few days, all three of us have spoken in the media about the result, and stated that the Prime Minister is no longer capable of leading our movement at this critical time - we repeat this view now.

Hull Labour remains the largest opposition group in the city, and we will work constructively in the running of the Council going forward.

ANNOUNCEMENT - ANITA HARRISON

It is with immense sadness we report the sad death last Friday lunchtime of our much loved brilliant friend and comrade Anita Harrison. Anita had been in hospital after being taken ill a week ago. A brilliant public servant, she passionately cared about the people of Hull, particularly her beloved Bransholme. We are shocked and the world today seems a more empty place without our Anita, a giant of our movement. Our love and thoughts are with her family, and details of her civic funeral will follow from the family in due course.
