Sheffield Park and Garden NT

Sheffield Park and Garden NT A beautiful grade I listed landscape garden surrounded by parkland and woodland. Our historic parkland forms a larger footprint for the Sheffield Park estate.

The garden is a horticultural work of art formed through centuries of landscape design, with influences of 'Capability' Brown and Humphry Repton. Four lakes form the heart of the garden, with paths circulating through the glades and wooded areas surrounding them. Each owner has left their impression, which can still be seen today in the layout of the lakes, the construction of Pulham Falls, the pl

anting of Palm Walk and the many different tree and shrub species from around the world. Dating back several centuries, it has had many uses including a deer park and WWII camp, and is now grazed with livestock and home to our natural woodland play trail in Ringwood Toll. The River Ouse runs across the bottom of the parkland and the original meanders are still visible winding across the meadow. This area has been transformed into a wildlife haven and is home to a diverse range of species including kingfishers, birds of prey, butterflies, and dragonflies.

What’s looking blooming lovely this week at Sheffield Park and Garden, National Trust...

Walk off the beaten track, along the grassy pathways, weaving their magic through the garden and discover something new on your next visit.

Pause and notice the flowers on the limes and nyssas, spot the Cornus kousa dressed in dazzling white in Garden for the Future and Desfontainia spinosa or ‘Chilean holly’ with its fiery colours in flower by Pulham Bridge.

In Garden for the Future, a riot of colour greets you from the purples of the Echium, vibrant greens of the Euphorbia, orange Californian poppies and white Orlaya.

And along a quiet path known as ‘Griseum Walk’, perhaps often missed, leading from Church Walk into Garden for the Future, a meadow is filled with life. With common spotted orchids, yellow rattle, ox-eye daises, knapweed, hawkbit and twayblade orchids in bloom. Look out for devil’s bit scabious here too flowering towards the end of summer.

Step out on the floating pontoon at Sheffield Park and Garden, National Trust for a closer look at the jewel-like water lilies emerging on the water’s surface, spot many, many goslings and some coot chicks, paddling around the lakes and enjoy that perfect mix of sunshine and a warm breeze. Maybe even with a scoop of ice-cream.

The perfect Sunday in a sunny garden. Doesn’t get better than this.

When you catch that break in the showers, and the sun rains down on you, sending its rays along the glistening pathways and lighting up the road ahead. Pure joy captured in just a moment.

We hope you get chance to venture outside this week and enjoy these little things, which collectively, we all know, are the big things.
