A quick update on progress with the original Talyllyn No.5, the very first 'new build' locomotive in preservation. After a lot of hard work on the chassis by Colin Copcutt it is now back on its wheels. The next stages are to sort buffer beams and the brakes. Thanks Colin.

So we haven't posted for a while because the winter storms held up some of our projects, but today a load of rail arrived at Wharf from the Bala Lake Railway, wonder what this could be for?
Thanks to Adam Rickett for sorting the transport.

It's Airborne!!

Today the Standard gauge wagon got lifted into position ready to form part of our transshipment display.
The lift was done in two stages, first onto Wharf edge and then lowered into position on a track panel laid on the site of the original siding.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible and for Network Rail who put a blockade in place while the lift was in progress.

Premiering tonight at 6.30pm BST the latest update on our heritage projects.

Santa came with our present a bit early this year (BTH I don't think he'd have fitted in the sleigh with the other gifts).

I'm sure you'll agree Stanegate have done a superb job on the restoration and we are working on getting the track sorted for it to be moved to its final position, but don't ask us when it will happen. Work has also been quietly proceeding on our other projects and we'll be posting news of these in the coming weeks.

In the meantime Happy New Year to everyone from the Heritage Working Group.

Today we welcomed Malcolm Wood and Robert Hayward from the National Railway Heritage Awards to unveil the plaque that was presented to the Railway last December as winners of the Hendy/Pendle Volunteers Award for the Tŷ Dŵr reconstruction. They also unveiled our new interpretation panel as part of our Founders' Day celebrations.

So after many miles the parts of original No.5 (there are more on the back of the truck) were delivered almost as far east from the Railway across the country as you can get. As you can see it's a very basic set of parts at the moment, but things have been restored from less so we'll have to see what's possible.
Many, many thanks to Chris and Keith who did the driving and Charles who arranged the pick up from where they had been stored.
