Cornwall Beaver Project

Cornwall Beaver Project linktr.ee/CornwallBeaverProject Beavers will be reintroduced to a fenced area upstream from Ladock village near Truro that has suffered severe flooding.

This exciting project based at Woodland Valley Farm brought beavers back to Cornwall for the first time in 400 years, and has shown how the species can create great benefits for both wildlife and people. After being hunted to extinction 400 years ago, Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Woodland Valley Farm are bringing beavers back to Cornwall. This ground-breaking project intends to show that beavers ca

n help create new wildlife habitat, make our water cleaner and crucially reduce flooding. Their impacts will be studied by our partner Universities of Exeter, Southampton and Plymouth. The results will help us find out if this native species could once again become part of the Cornish landscape to help us combat flooding – naturally.

Celebrating the brilliance of our own Chris Jones, whose beautiful poem about the mighty beaver was set to music by Sarah Dupré and brought to life by the Acorn MusEcology Project in California back in 2024.

A joyful tribute to the quiet, essential work beavers do for themselves and for the whole web of wildlife.

Give it a listen and feel the love for nature’s greatest ecosystem engineers.

Our very own Chris Jones features in the latest Farm Gate Podcast episode, “Spongey landscapes, beavers and bluebells”, joining hosts Ffinlo Costain and Martin Lines, along with Ali Morse, Water Policy Manager at The Wildlife Trusts.

Together they explore how nature (and beavers!) help keep water within the landscape, and why this matters for resilience, biodiversity, and farming.

“Given the chance, nature can recover.”
Today, on Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, we’re celebrating the hope behind those words, and a century of wonder, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to nature.

His voice has guided generations to care more deeply for the wild places and wild creatures that make our planet extraordinary.

Here at the Cornwall Beaver Project, watching beavers reshape our landscape is a daily reminder of the resilience of nature that he has spent a lifetime sharing with the world.

Happy Birthday, Sir David - thank you for inspiring us every day.

Happy Earth Day! 🌍

"Environmental progress is built through everyday action - from communities protecting ecosystems to innovators advancing solutions. Clean air, safe water, and climate resilience aren’t optional - they’re essential."

Thankfully, our beavers contribute to all three of these essentials! 💚 But we can't just rely on beavers to save the planet - we all need to do our bit. Small consistent actions can add up to big change - check out earthday.org/earth-day-2026/ for inspiration!

Heron Appreciation Post! 🪶

Our resident grey heron (affectionately known as Harold) certainly isn’t camera shy. Whether he’s bobbing along the bank or frozen in full hunting mode, he always puts on a show.

These prehistoric-looking birds are expert ambush predators, using their long legs to wade quietly and their sharp bills to spear fish with remarkable accuracy. They play an important role in wetland ecosystems, helping to keep fish populations balanced.

We’re lucky to have Harold as a regular visitor 💚
