Cornwall Community Flood Forum

Cornwall Community Flood Forum A Cornish charity committed to supporting communities, households and businesses before, during and after flooding. Swearing in any form will not be tolerated.

The Cornwall Community Flood Forum is a community-led initiative committed to supporting communities, households and businesses at risk of flooding. We are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with a membership that includes local councils, community groups and individuals with an active involvement in flood risk management. We are here to promote partnership working within flood risk management

and support communities before, during and after flooding. The Cornwall Community Flood Forum was established as a Members Association following widespread flooding throughout mid Cornwall on the 17th of November 2010 when more than 300 households and businesses were affected. We gained charitable status on 19 April 2016 (Charity No:1166604). The activities of the Forum are guided by a Board of Trustees that consists of individuals who possess either skills in flood risk management or an enthusiasm to make a difference locally. Board Meetings are also attended by representatives from Cornwall's flood 'Risk Management Authorities'; Cornwall Council, the Environment Agency, South West Water. 🌳This week, CCFF visited Woodland Valley Farm to try and spot the 4 local beavers!🌳

Although we didn't spot any beavers this time round, we were able to see what they've been up to in their enclosure and the dams they have been busy building. This has alleviated the flooding in the surrounding areas and it was great to find out more about how beavers have the potential to benefit local ecosystems here in Cornwall.

Yesterday, CCFF Trustee, Jenny and Community Engagement Officer, Emma had the wonderful opportunity to run a workshop for Year 7 and Year 10 students at Wadebridge School

This was a great chance for them to look more in depth at the local flood risk and have a go at some of our practical Flood Warden scenario training! The students did a brilliant job and we hope to see them become Flood Wardens in years to come! A big thank you to the staff and students for welcoming us and making this possible.

We were delighted to attend and speak about preparedness at Penwith's Community Area Partnership meeting last week, along with our partners from Cornwall Council Emergency Management and the Environment Agency.

The group took part in a scenario exercise where they considered what actions they could take during a severe weather event, who they would communicate with, and how. It was lovely to see so many people there and the group had great ideas about how they could use their local knowledge to make their community more resilient.

Yesterday evening, we headed over to Lostwithiel to run a live exercise with the Flood Group, working with our partners at the Environment Agency and Cornwall Council.

On a wet and windy evening, the group walked around Lostwithiel and discussed their response to different flooding scenarios. They tested out their communications via radio, reporting each ‘incident’ back to the coordinators, who provided advice to the wardens on the ground. This was a great opportunity for the group to practice what to do in a flood event.

A massive well done to Lostwithiel and thank you to everyone who gave up their time to attend!

Last Thursday, we ran a live exercise with Mawgan Porth's Flood Group, working with our partners at the Environment Agency and Cornwall Council.

The group went out and about to discuss their response to six different scenarios. They tested out their communications via radio, reporting each ‘incident’ back to the coordinators. The coordinators provided advice to the wardens on the ground, completed a logging sheet and practiced reporting issues to the relevant agencies.

This was a great opportunity for the group to identify any gaps in their Flood Plan and to get some realistic practice of what to do in a flood event.

A big well done to Mawgan Porth and thank you to everyone who gave up their time to attend!
