Need a great county recommendation for a few days road trippin’ travel in the UK? 🚗 🙋🏽🇬🇧

Cornwall is the UK’s most southwesterly county, with beaches 🏖, cute towns and gardens 🌳 ready to steal your heart - and located about 4-5 hours from London. 🚅🚗There’s are some of the best things to do in Cornwall…

1. Minack Theatre
a spectacular open air theatre, perched on the Cornish cliffs. Experience the magic of live performance in this iconic space, overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay, throughout the summer months. 🎭 🌊
📸

2. St. Michael Mount
is a unique little island across the water and surrounded by ancient myth and legends. At low tide you can walk across the causeway from Marazion, “following in the footsteps of giants and pilgrims”. 👣 🤩

3. Eden Project
Two giant biomes (one Mediterranean, one rainforest) that look like oversized footballs but actually contain a paradise of plants and the world’s largest indoor rainforest. 🌱🌳
📸

4. St. Ives
an idyllic arty town where you can chill out on the sandy beach 🏖, check out local artists 🎨 , and grab some of the best scones (with lashings of clotted cream) in all of England. 👌🏻
📸

5. Tintagel Castle
Escape to a castle steeped in legend on Cornwall’s beautiful north coast. Uncover tales of King Arthur,🤴 explore the clifftop ruins and cross the iconic new bridge.
📸

6. The Lost Gardens of Heligan
Thirty years ago, Heligan’s historic gardens were unknown and unseen since the outbreak of WW1. 🤔 Today, The Lost Gardens have been restored, and are back where they belong in pride of place among the finest gardens in England. 🌳

7. Port Isaac
is a tiny little fishing village that’s just too picturesque to miss. 🎣 Filming location for the Doc Martin tv series 📺, wander through the tiny little streets and explore the coastal walks… and check out the Cornish seafood.🦐😋

You’ll be surprised who can be a victim of human trafficking… 😢

Today is the international day to . Human Trafficking exploits millions of people for profit. Victims are tricked, defrauded and forced to work. They have their freedom, rights and dignity stolen. It is cruel and evil, and we must bring Human Trafficking to an end. 🙏

The poor and vulnerable are most affected. But anyone can be a victim – as traffickers use false promises of education and job opportunities to trick and coerce victims. 😔

Take Shandra Woworuntu 🇮🇩, who worked successfully as a financial analyst and money market trader at an international bank, but was sold into s*x trafficking when pursuing a job opportunity in the United States. 🇺🇸 “They took my passport, ticket, and suitcases, and demanded US$ 30,000 for my freedom.”

A victim, now a survivor, after she victoriously managed to survive and escape 💪, Shandra is courageously helping others as she has successfully established an empowerment programme to aid trafficking victims, to make sure their point of view is understood.👏

Today’s international day is focused on how we can make the most of technology to fight Human Trafficking.

Right now technology & digital platforms are frequently misused to:

⛓️ Recruit victims
📳 Advertise services from victims
💻 Exploit victims online

We need to turn technology around, so it is part of the solution to .

Combating modern slavery and human trafficking is one of the UK’s highest priorities. 🇬🇧 We're working in the UK and beyond to pursue offenders, safeguard victims, and create environments that reduce people’s vulnerability to exploitation.

We are using technology to:

- improve victims of human rights’ access to legal aid 📯📜, through initiatives such as lawhub.id to make legal consultation and representation more accessible for all

- broaden entrepreneurship opportunities for youth, women and marginalised groups through our Berdaya Bareng and Tech Hub programmes - extending economic opportunities across the archipelago. 🌍 💻

Putin’s justification for the war on Ukraine is that Russian forces are “liberating” Ukrainians from N***s.

But he has sent a force of oppression on a mission to destroy Ukraine.
Putin’s war is built on lies.

After four attempts (plus one missed deadline), I finally became an expert in handling rejection and was pretty sure I would get rejected again in 2021. However, one night when I intended to clear my spam, I saw an email from Chevening which stated that I got an offer. I was still in disbelief when I reached out to several friends who got chosen previously, making sure that it was a legit offer. It turned out to be an official letter! *Screamed internally 😭

Living my dream in the UK, I thought it would be all sunshine 🌞 and rainbows 🌈 – but just like a proper storyline, there were ups and downs. The pandemics, cultural shocks, loneliness, and extreme weather shifts became my notable setbacks during my study. Fortunately, I made friends and family with beautiful people in Leeds 🥰 The encounter with future global leaders and experts also helps me deepen my knowledge, especially in my digital and communication empowerment field. One more thing that should not be skipped: during my life in the UK, I started to enjoy talking and vibing with local elders – talks with them always led me to learn more about their culture: pubs, queuing, tea, and sometimes hearing reflections and life lessons on their relationships too (if you’re lucky)! *Tips: talks about weather is a national sport here; try to keep up with this topic 🤣🌦️

For those who plan to continue their study in the UK, one lesson that I got from my process: iterative mindset is essential – stay persistent, keep growing, and stay focused on your telos! Keep track of your experience, current position, and future goals. Make sure it connects and will help you study in the UK and adapt to life here. And finally, don’t let failures put you down because it is an important stepping stone for your character development – just like how anime characters got their superpower! 💪🔥

For over nine months, I have been studying at one of the best universities in transport studies ✈️, the University of Leeds. I have done many things here; completed all my coursework, joined the university society, and the last two essential things: enjoyed the UK culture and explored the UK nature. I am so grateful that Leeds is blessed with stunning nature ⛰️. Yorkshire Dales has been a place to relax from all study work. The trip to Peak District and Lake District with transport students is a beautiful memory. Moreover, I also enjoyed one of the most remarkable things about UK culture: football! ⚽ What a great experience to feel the real atmosphere of some legendary stadiums in football history: 🔵 I watched Chelsea against Leeds at Stamford Bridge, 🔴 shouted out “Siuuu” at Old Trafford, 🔴 sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” at Anfield Stadium, ⚪ performed a “Mexican-wave” at Wembley Stadium.

It was such a long journey before making these things happen. Thank you, Chevening Awards, for making my dream to study in the UK come true. As one of the most prestigious scholarships globally, being part of the Chevening family is not easy. I applied for the first time in 2018 and was rejected even in the first stage. Reapplying the year after, unexpectedly, I was selected as a reserve candidate. However, it ended up that I failed again. Finally, in my third attempt, I made it! I was chosen as a Chevening awardee, Alhamdulillah. 🤲🏻

The experiences in the first paragraph would not happen without hard work and persistence. For those planning to study in the UK, never give up!👊🏻 Let any failures be your fuel to flying high. Until one day, you will tell your own remarkable story.

I go grocery shopping on a weekly and monthly basis. For weekly shopping, I usually buy vegetables, milk, protein (egg, chicken, beef), and bread at the nearest local convenience store. My favourite is Lidl. This store offers the cheapest prices and it has the best croissants in town! 🥐

As for monthly shopping, I will go to the Asian store where I can buy jasmine rice, sweet soy sauce, and chilli sauce. I can’t live without them. At the Asian store, I can also find Indonesian spices and ingredients such as shallot, raw peanut, tempeh, firm tofu, palm sugar, and prawn crackers to make Ketoprak and Batagor. 🍚 🌾

To minimise COVID-19 transmission, I have some tips. First, avoid weekends as usually more people do grocery shopping then. I also usually go at 09.00hrs or 16.00hrs when people are busy with their activities. Secondly, list down the items you want to buy in advance to reduce shopping time. Third, always wear your mask and keep social distancing. 🗓 📝😷

I never bought anything online because my accommodation is near the city centre. I can easily find anything in the offline stores. But, buying things online could be a solution to minimise social contact during the pandemic. 🏬

Overall, living in the UK gives me new experiences. I can learn many things beyond campus, from the people, culture, city, and nature. I like everything here but one: assignment. Just kidding. Hehehe. 😁

Hands up if you'd love to stay here? 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻

Britain has a vast range of places to stay... and many places that will blow your mind. 🤯 Take your pick from these weird and wonderful accommodation options 🏡 👀

📝🌟Plan Now Travel Later✈️ 🌍

1. Cley Windmill (North Norfolk coast)
converted into a guesthouse in 1983. There are nine B&B rooms, including the “Wheel Room”, a newly converted space at the windmill’s very top – accessed via a steep ladder, which offers the most spectacular panoramic views 😍🏞

2. The Big Green Bus (Suss*x countryside)
this double-decker bus parked in a field next to a wood has been converted into a spacious and unusual holiday accommodation by Adam Collier-Woods. Making the ultimate quirky getaway for a few nights, with its mixture of up-cycled furniture, retro colours and orginial bus features 🚌🛏

3. A rooftop retro trailer (St Nicholas Street, Bristol)
Looking for an unusual place to stay? What about a vintage airstream caravan on the rooftop of a building in central Bristol? There are 4 airtreams to chose from, varying in length but of course all have fabulous views 👌🏻 🚐

4. The Rockhouse Retreat (Worcestershire, Birmingham)
Britain’s first 21st century cave house, a unique sculptured home handcarved from a sandstone escarpment. This rock-carved retreat has featured in numerous British TV programmes and newspapers🪨 🤔

5. Appleton Water Tower (Sandringham, Norfolk)
This octagonal tower is available for booking and has an incredible view. Queen Victoria had this 18 meters octagonal water tower built on the edge of her Sandringham Estate, topped by a 145,500-litre cast-iron water tank and viewing platform 🚰🛕
