Aw Harry Prickles is so tired after a long and busy summer in the library that he is going to have a rest for a while to recharge his batteries!! He was really happy to see so many children over the summer and he received a lot of love and cuddles. 🥰

Thank you to all those who came to see him. He might also be in need of some cosmetic surgery on his nose which seems to have lost some of its stuffing - are there any hedgehog surgeons out there??? 🦔🤔😅

Congratulations to Trowbridge Literary Book Group who have just celebrated 50 years of meeting together!! How fab is that and what's more, all those years they have used Trowbridge Library to source their books!! What a brilliant thing to celebrate in this . 🎉

We were so thrilled to meet one of the original members when she came to pick up their latest read on Saturday. Here is she is with one of our Library Development Managers. She is still part of the same group and along with new and old members they very much treasure their time together. Fifty years ago she was expecting her first child and was looking for ways to connect with other young mums in the area and so the book group was born and it has gone from strength to strength. Back then it was affliated with the NWR (National Women’s Register) which still operates today and has a remit for connecting women socially and tackling isolation.

This lady agrees that Reading groups are so good for mental health as in addition to getting you to read, they also facilitate meeting and talking with others (not just about books but also about other things in your life which helps improve your wellbeing). We have three book groups who meet in the library - please ask us for details if you're interested in joining them.📙📚📗

Lucy Maud Montgomery, ‘September’.

Lo! a ripe sheaf of many golden days
Gleaned by the year in autumn’s harvest ways,
With here and there, blood-tinted as an ember,
Some crimson poppy of a late delight
Atoning in its splendor for the flight
Of summer blooms and joys
This is September.

It's September already and hints of autumn are appearing. Enjoy the changing seasons! 🍁🍂📙

How did the ‘warhorse’, first encountered in Britain at the battle of Hastings, evolve? A talk by the author of a groundbreaking study (featured on the BBC’s ‘Digging for Britain’) looks at what the archaeology of horses shows us about the development of the armoured mounted knight in the Middle Ages.
“The Medieval Warhorse” on Thursday 9th September, 6pm, Warminster Library. Tickets £3, book a seat: 01985 216022 https://orlo.uk/N4xkO
Oliver Creighton (Professor of Archaeology, Exeter University) is a leading expert in medieval warfare, as seen on the BBC: “Castles-Britain’s fortified history”; “Digging for Britain”; and “Mysteries of the Bayeux Tapestry”.
