Tonight marked the first parade night back at 83’s home, as last week we said our farewell to In-Comm for hosting us.

With our squadron unexpectedly closed at the start of the year In-Comm stepped up to host us, allowing us to continue the training and development of the cadets.

Thank you!

Yesterday evening, we proudly celebrated the successful completion of our First Class Passing Out Parade ✈️

Over the past six months, our cadets have shown outstanding commitment and discipline while working towards this milestone in their RAFAC journey. From learning the fundamentals of air cadet training to developing their confidence, each cadet has worked incredibly hard to earn their place on parade tonight.

The Passing Out Parade marks not only the completion of their First Class training, but also the beginning of opportunities ahead within the RAFAC. Seeing the progress each cadet has made has been a proud moment for the Staff, NCO’s and their parents who for the first time joined us to watch them on the parade.

A huge congratulations to every cadet who took part this evening. You should all be extremely proud of what you have achieved. We would also like to thank our staff team, parents, and supporters for their continued encouragement and dedication to the squadron.

Want to be a part of the next First Class Cohort? Join us! Our next intake is the 29th of June so email [email protected] if you’re interested in joining us.

And a thank you to In-Comm who have provided us with the facility to host us there.

On the water with Royal Air Force Air Cadets kayaking 🚣‍♂️

Started with swimming proficiencies, learning how to safely enter and exit the kayak (even after a capsize), and a full safety brief.

Then it was straight into action — paddling drills and playing games on the water 💪

Finished off by linking together as a raft — teamwork at its best.

Great effort from everyone, and plenty more to come 🌊

Cadet Warrant Officer Cooper officially appointed as the Mayor’s Cadet for Oakengates for the 2026-2027 term.

CWO Cooper - ‘Representing the RAF Air Cadets in my local community is a huge privilege, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to support the Mayor in engagements over the coming year. This experience means a lot to me, and I’m looking forward to making the most of it, giving back to the community and to represent my squadron.

Congratulations to him, and thank you to Oakengates Town Council 🎉

Last weekend CPL Smith was selected to attend the National Clay Target Shoot. Throughout his time in Cambridge he had the opportunity to demonstrate the skills he has been refining over the past couple of months.

On Friday, all of the teams had the chance to practice and take a look at each of the stands. This gave them the time to understand what the competition would look like on Saturday and make any final adjustments.

The following day, CPL Smith and his team represented West Mercian Wing as the National shoot commenced. During the day they had a go at the various sporting stands, that each presented their own challenges, and took part in DTL (Down The Line).

On Sunday morning, the teams tackled the flush shoot before attending the awards ceremony.

Overall it has been a very exciting and rewarding weekend. Nationals has meant that CPL Smith has gained valuable experience and a chance to represent his wing, all whilst making memories along the way.

Last parade night we were back to practicing Drill and developing the cadets in this fundamental area

As a critical part of the cadet life, drill is something that we push and focus our development for the cadets. The last few weeks have been mainly focused on classroom training but given the pleasant weather we have taken the opportunity to continue our drill development.

With many thanks to without hesitation they made their Telford training academy accessible to the cadets each week as our squadron remains closed due to unprecedented circumstances.
