We’re delighted that the Health and Social Care (Wales) Bill has now been approved by the Senedd, marking a major milestone in removing profit from children's care.

From April 2030, only not-for-profit organisations will be allowed to provide care services, ensuring that every decision made is about what’s best for children, and not financial gain.

We’re proud to have already made this transition, becoming a not-for-profit provider well ahead of the government’s deadline. This ensures that every penny we receive is reinvested into delivering the highest standard of care for vulnerable children and providing the best possible support for our incredible foster carers.

This is a positive step for fostering in Wales, and we’re excited to continue leading the way in a sector that puts children first, always. 💙

Should non-social work qualified staff carry out child in need assessments? Yes, many are highly skilled and it would free social workers up. In principle, but they would need appropriate training and supervision. No, it would carry too much risk for children. View Results  Loading ... Legislation ...

Our commitment to providing exceptional, values-driven care for vulnerable children has never wavered.

While we’ve embraced an exciting new chapter as a not-for-profit agency with TACT Fostering, our core principles remain exactly the same.

We continue to prioritise the safety, development, and future success of every child in our care, alongside unwavering support for our foster carers 🙌

Our legacy of putting children first is stronger than ever.

The Welsh Government has introduced legislation to remove profit from children’s care by 2027 to ensure that foster care is driven by the needs of children and young people, not financial gain.

This change reflects a commitment to providing stable, nurturing environments where every decision is made in the best interest of vulnerable children.

By moving to a not-for-profit model, the goal is to reinvest resources directly into improving the quality of care and support for foster carers across Wales 💙

A message from Mick Sams:

As I step into my new role as Head of Foster Care Values, I’m proud to lead the agency I built through an exciting transformation.

Our shift to a not-for-profit model ensures that FCV remains true to its roots while securing a bright and sustainable future.

We’ll continue providing exceptional care for children and foster carers across Wales, as we enter this new chapter in the fostering landscape. 💙

Thank you to everyone for their well wishes - very kind and hugely appreciated.

Congratulations to Colwyn Bay on their 7-0 win last night!

Have you heard about the Health and Social Care (Wales) Bill?

It introduces transformative changes aimed at ensuring health and social care services are integrated, person-centered, and focused on improving well-being. It also supports the Welsh Government’s push to eliminate profit from children’s care by 2027.

For foster care, this means:
1) Greater collaboration between health, social, and fostering services to ensure the holistic well-being of children in care.
2) A commitment to putting children’s needs above financial considerations, making sure that all resources are reinvested in delivering the highest standard of care.
3) Streamlining services to provide better support for foster carers and children, making sure their physical, mental, and emotional needs are prioritised.

By becoming a not-for-profit agency this year, Foster Care Values is already leading the way in shaping the future of care in Wales. 💙

We’re thrilled to announce that Foster Care Values has joined forces with TACT Fostering, the UK’s largest dedicated fostering charity, to secure our not-for-profit future! 🎉

This transition allows us to stay true to our values, ensuring every penny goes back into supporting children and carers 💫

As you’d expect with any new partnership, there will be a few changes over the next few months, but rest assured, Foster Care Values will remain the same at heart.

In fact, we’ll be continuing:
💙 Under the same brand and with the same values
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 With the same team of brilliant people
🙍🏼‍♂️ With founder Mick Sams leading the day-to-day operations

Together, we can ensure the best care for our foster carers and children 🥰

As we come to the end of Pride Month 🌈 we wanted to talk about fostering within the LGBTQ+ community.

One of the most common questions we get from potential foster carers is whether their sexual orientation can prevent them being accepted to foster.

The answer is, of course not.

Foster Care Values evaluates your application solely based on your suitability to become a foster carer and does not discriminate based on sexuality or gender.

What is really fostering like? 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦

Fostering is a commitment, and there’s nothing else quite like it.

There will be times to cherish and times when you can really see the difference you make. During challenging times, rest assured, you will have our 24/7 support to help you navigate through.

It could be for one night, two weeks, or maybe longer. But fostering will surprise you. It will challenge you and reward you!

Who needs fostering? 💭

There’s no typical foster child and there’s no typical foster family either.

Each child or young person has their own passions and personality. They’ve come from a unique set of circumstances, which have shaped their lives so far 🧩 We’re here to make sure their futures are brighter and positive ⭐️

From babies to teenagers, our role is to support each one and to find the family that’s right for them. Many of the children referred to Foster Care Values are over the age of 11, so we really value when prospect carers are open to a wider age range 👨‍👩‍👦
