Happy International Lynx Day! 🐾

Today we are celebrating these fierce felines and raising awareness of the importance to protect them and their natural habitats. In particular we at the NFWP celebrate and support the largest of the four lynx species, the Eurasian lynx.

During weekends our keepers present a talk about our resident two lynx sisters, Tora and Inga. A must see during your next visit! 💚

These turtles remind us why protecting nature is a pasta-tively good idea! 🐢

Did you know the European pond turtle is the only freshwater turtle species native to much of central and western Europe? Its range also extends into parts of western Asia and North Africa, although many populations have become fragmented due to habitat loss and changes to wetlands.

Here at our park, you can see our four males: Rigatoni, Macaroni, Ravioli and Cannelloni. Next time you visit, keep an eye out for our shelled quartet basking on their logs or exploring their pond! 💚

Our polecats love a lazy Monday! 💤

Something as simple as a hollow log can become the best enrichment. Not only can it be a place to hide and rest, but also encourages natural behaviours like exploring, climbing, sniffing, and foraging. The different textures, scents, and hiding spots keep them mentally stimulated and active, helping to prevent boredom! 🐾

Before you catch a glimpse of Bodie, he's already caught your scent!👃

Wolverines have an incredible sense of smell that helps them survive in some of the harshest environments. These powerful predators and scavengers can detect food buried deep beneath snow and ice, even up to 20ft deep. Their keen noses help them locate carrion, find prey, and even identify potential rivals in their territory! 🐾

Recently Jason, our Curator of animals, attended the 6th joint TAG meeting held at Taipei Zoo! 💚

The meeting brings together the global zoo and aquarium community to strengthen collaboration, alignment and impact in population management for species recovery. Over the three days, Jason took part in workshops, discussion groups, and regional exchanges.

Events like this highlight the power of collaboration in conservation. By sharing knowledge, research and experience, experts can work together to protect some of the world’s most vulnerable species.

A huge thank you to the organisers and everyone involved in such an important conversation for wildlife 🌍

Another successful rescue, rehabilitation and release! 🦉

Recently, we took in a wild tawny owl that had unfortunately been hit by a car. Initially, it was unclear whether the owl had sustained any serious injuries to its head and left eye, but after a check-up with Seadown Veterinary, it was determined that the owl would likely make a full recovery.

After a couple of weeks of close monitoring, we were delighted to see that it had recovered completely from the collision and were able to release it back into the area where it was found 💚

*Please Note; we can only take in rescued otters, owls, birds of prey and deer, through referral from a veterinary specialist. Other species should be taken to the RSPCA or other specialist centres.*
