Good afternoon Totnes. Latest update for you: a man was arrested for suspected drug dealing and weapons seized following a local day of action in the town this week. We detained the 29 year old Torbay man on suspicion of Possession With Intent to Supply Class A drugs (co***ne) after stopping a vehicle. He has since been bailed while investigations continue. Members of the local neighbourhood police team carried out checks in Totnes yesterday (26 May). Further stop and searches and checks of three vehicles led to the seizure of a number of offensive weapons - the items will be sent for destruction.
We carry out regular proactive operations such as this to disrupt potential criminality and reassure the community. You tell us that drug dealing is a priority issue of concern and we will respond to feedback. We are grateful for the community support that we receive and urge anyone with information about drug dealing in Totnes and the wider area to report it via 101 or the Devon & Cornwall Police website. 👮🏼 Dawlish Warren Beach – Police Engagement Update

During the evening of Friday 22 May, following information and intelligence received, officers from our Neighbourhood Teams across South Devon attended Dawlish Warren Beach in response to reports of a large number of young people gathering in the area, some of which had travelled to Dawlish from all over the South Devon area.

Our approach was focused on engagement and education. We recognise that young people want to socialise and enjoy themselves; however, it is important this is done in a safe and responsible manner.

Officers engaged positively with those present, resulting in constructive interactions. While the majority of people were cooperative and respectful, a large number of alcohol seizures were made.

Our primary concern was the safety of the public, particularly given the number of young people present, with many being under the influence of alcohol, on a beach with the tide coming in. Our clear aim was to safeguard those present and ensure everyone was able to leave the area safely.

We would like to thank those who engaged with officers and understood the reasons for our presence and actions.

It is disappointing that officers were also required to assist in clearing litter from the beach afterwards, and we would urge everyone to take responsibility for the environment.

We are aware of further planned gatherings across South Devon. We will continue to take a proactive approach, working to engage and educate. We also ask parents and guardians to consider the risks associated with large, unsupervised public gatherings when making decisions about their children attending such events.

LATEST | Information has been received that planned gatherings involving young people have been arranged in locations across South Devon today, 22 May.

While the majority are good natured and will no doubt want to make the best of the good bank holiday weather, there have been recent incidents involving large groups of young people which have led to antisocial behaviour and community disruption.

In response to those events and today’s information, officers will be carrying out increased high-visibility patrols in known areas and will utilise such powers as Section 35 dispersal orders if considered appropriate.

These orders give officers enhanced powers to prevent antisocial behaviour, reduce disruption and keep the public safe.

What this means:
• Officers can direct individuals or groups to leave the area immediately.
• Those directed must not return within the specified time period.
• Failure to comply is a criminal offence and may result in arrest.
• Anyone under the age of 16 may be taken home or to a place of safety.

Robust action will be taken where necessary.

18th to 24th May is National "Op Sceptre" Knife Crime Week.

This morning, officers from Totnes Neighbourhood Team visited retail premises in the town to promote and encourage the responsible sale of knives.

Totnes Neighbourhood Team have a zero tolerance approach to possession of offensive weapons, and you WILL be arrested if you are found to have a knife in public without a lawful purpose.

Please do not carry a knife.

Protection is not an excuse.

If you have any unused knives that you would like to safely dispose of, a red knife amnesty letterbox is located by the main door at Totnes Police Station. The photo shows items that have been surrendered in the last month.

If someone you know is carrying a knife; this can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers by phoning 0800555111.

Totnes is a safe community, with knife crime thankfully very rare!

Good Afternoon Totnes 👋

You may recall from a previous Facebook post, in September 2024 Landworks Charity were victim of a burglary where power tools were stolen. An Exeter man was later convicted of the burglary and sentenced to 39 weeks imprisonment. He was also required to pay £2,000 compensation.

Yesterday, PC Shepheard and PC Carter from Totnes Neighbourhood Team visited Landworks Charity in Dartington to donate power tools. These power tools had been seized by Totnes Neighbourhood Team and were due for destruction.

Landworks is an award-winning resettlement charity providing holistic support for those who have been in prison, or are at risk of going to prison. They are brilliant at reducing reoffending and help to turn lives around, which in turn prevents future victims. Landworks provides woodworking, market gardening, pottery and cooking work-experience on their site, as well as practical resettlement support and counselling. Incredibly, Landworks graduates have a reoffending rate of less than 6%…much less than the national average of 46%! This is testament to the amazing work of Chris, Project Director, and the team at Landworks.

Well done to our fantastic dedicated police officers, staff and volunteers working across South Devon who have been recognised for their outstanding achievements.
More than 50 award winners gathered at a ceremony in Torquay recently and were joined by their proud family, friends and colleagues. Commendations were handed out for various examples of great bravery and lifesaving first aid. South Devon Police Commander Chief Superintendent Roy Linden said: “It was a privilege to thank officers, staff and police volunteers for acting above and beyond to protect the public. From saving lives to delivering complex crime investigations, the awards were given to a range of people who come to work every day to serve others.”

Good Afternoon Totnes 👋

Yesterday, 23rd April 2026, Totnes Neighbourhood Team held a day-of-action.

Below is what the (small, but mighty) team did:

🦾 Arrested a female who was wanted on warrant for six assaults on emergency workers, two common assaults, actual bodily harm, theft and possession of cannabis.

🏪 Undertook crime prevention visits to retail premises in Totnes town centre.

🔑 Issued a Community Protection Notice (CPN) to address the behaviour of a local nuisance male. Should the male fail to abide by the conditions of the CPN, he will be arrested.

🌳 Liaised with South Hams District Council regarding designing out crime initiatives on Vire Island.

👥 Engaged with the street-attached community, and worked with partners to forge positive housing solutions.

🚗 Members of the team ended the day recovering a vehicle, following a traffic incident. We will update on the incident further in due course….👀

Good Evening Totnes 👋

Thanks to information received from the local community, Totnes Neighbourhood Team have today arrested a local female on suspicion of drug driving following a positive roadside drugs test for co***ne.

Alarmingly, the female also provided a breath test reading of 27ugs - just under the drink drive limit. This was more than 2-hours after reportedly leaving the pub having had “one drink”.
