People in Torry are planning a community-led Assembly for the weekend of the 27/28 May in St Fittick’s Park. We’ll be asking:
“How can Torry reclaim the power to make this a healthy community to grow up in?”
That could mean thinking about how we save St Fittick’s Park, Big Noise, the library, School, Lochside buses . . . ? It could mean the start of a new way of doing things in Torry, where lo
cal people decide on what happens here and work together to make it a great place to live. It’s a day or more for local people to get together to think about how to make change in our community. Thinking about the question, we’ll listen to different experts, talk and listen to one another and decide how to move forward. The main issues people have mentioned so far are:
Power - we don’t have the power to decide what happens in Torry
Places - the places we care about keep being taken away
Health - the health of Torry residents is being undermined
Children + young people - there is not enough for young people in Torry
Division - deprivation is causing isolation and division
In the Assembly everyone can bring thoughts, interests, and solutions to start building a better future for ourselves, our families, neighbours and the whole community of Torry. Who can come along? Entry is free and open to everyone who lives here (and friends from elsewhere). We’re inviting anyone and everyone in Torry to come along and get your voice heard. Who’s organising it? A group of local residents and supporters are heading this up, with the support of Open Source who support communities to run their own Assemblies - everyone is welcome. How do I get involved? This group meets alternate Saturdays at Old Torry Community Centre - turn up and join in if you’re interested - or just come for lunch (1-2pm) if you have questions. The meeting dates are as follows. Most, but not all, are a fortnight apart! Saturday 8 April 4pm to 6pm (We’ll be at Greyhope Bay 10am-4pm)
