Found this in the undergrowth in-between Sherwell valley and the Boys Grammar. It's either an old posh end of garden feature or else an old entranceway to Shiphay Manor. Now just a random pile of bricks in the undergrowth.

St. John's Church in Cadewell Lane 1910. Built by the Kitsons in 1897 as the population increased. Built privately at a cost of £2,200, It was intended to be used as a church on a Sundsy and a school the rest of the time. Shiphay was still in the parish of St. Marychurch and being on private land could not replace it.
I'm certain that tree in the background is the same Plain tree that still survives roads, paths, dog wee and pedestrians to this day.
I'm fairly certain the little building down Water Lane and now a car port and half burnt down by idiots recently, was the site of the previous tiny school. I am happy to be corrected.

There doesn't seem to be many pictures around, but this is Cadewell House. Residence for a friend of the Kitson family. ...

There doesn't seem to be many pictures around, but this is Cadewell House. Residence for a friend of the Kitson family. I think it was built mid 19th century and demolished in the 1960s?

Kitson Park. 1960s. I can remember playing hide and seek around this area in the 80s. At the bottom, was a steel climbing frame, fall and the concrete awaits!
Kitson Park was originally the orchard for the Manor, one apple tree still remains today.

Unfortunately this was demolished in the 1980s I think. It's adjacent to the Manor so assume it was possibly staff quart...

Bath and West Show, 1930. Sited at Shiphay.

The showground entrance was at Shiphay Avenue, with the Main Show Ring on the site of present day Sherwell Valley Primary School. Exhibition stands were placed on land now occupied by Torquay Boys Grammar school.

Some 50,000 visitors attended over 4 days. While sited on farming fields, within a decade numerous residential and educational buildings would transform this view forever.

Can you spot Shiphay Manor? It must be here, but I can't see it.

Tithe barn (1960s)
The barn was constructed around 1500AD, by the monks who lived at the site of present day Shiphay Manor. Amazingly the 500 year old barn survives to this day. But the roof collapsed in the 1980s.
