๐Ÿ“… Preparedness Month ยท Day 8 of 30 -

Today's theme: Scammers and Fraud

Fraud isn't just a personal risk anymore - it's one of the fastest-growing threats to organisational resilience. Phishing emails, invoice fraud, business email compromise, and social engineering attacks don't just target individuals; they target your staff, your suppliers, and your systems, often as the entry point for much bigger cyber incidents.

๐Ÿ” For individuals:
โ€ข Pause before clicking - scammers rely on urgency
โ€ข Verify unexpected requests for money or information via a separate, trusted channel
โ€ข Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication
โ€ข Report suspicious emails/texts (e.g. via Action Fraud or your IT/security team)

๐Ÿข For organisations and businesses:
โ€ข Build a culture of "verify, don't assume" - especially for payment or data requests
โ€ข Run regular phishing simulations and staff awareness training
โ€ข Have a tested incident response plan specifically for fraud/cyber breach scenarios
โ€ข Review third-party and supply chain access - attackers often go in through the weakest link
โ€ข Ensure leadership understands cyber risk as a business continuity issue, not just an IT one
The reality is: resilience to fraud and cyber threats isn't a one-off fix - it's a capability that needs to be built and maintained at every level of an organisation.

๐ŸŽ“ That's exactly what the UK Resilience Academy's Cyber Resilience Learning Pathway is designed for. It takes learners from foundational cyber awareness, through practitioner-level skills, to strategic leadership in managing cyber risk - so whether you're just starting to think about cyber resilience or you're leading your organisation's response, there's a stage built for you.

๐ŸŒŸ Course Spotlight - Developing Preparedness Arrangements ๐Ÿ”ฆ

When an emergency hits, will your arrangements actually hold up?

Plans that look solid on paper often fall apart when tested against real risks and real capacity. Our Developing Preparedness Arrangements course closes that gap - taking you from defining capabilities based on worst-case risk scenarios through to producing arrangements that are genuinely usable and defensible. Covering everything from documentation and decision controls to how plans get communicated, trained, tested and reviewed.

It's a two-day, residential course (with a short e-learning module beforehand) aimed at anyone developing, reviewing or supporting emergency preparedness, particularly those with duties under the Civil Contingencies Act.

๐Ÿ“Œ What happens when these two worlds collide during a crisis - and what it means for risk and resilience

What actually happens to your organisation when disruption hits?

Many organisations manage risk and continuity in silos, without a clear view of how governance, culture and interdependencies actually hold up under pressure. Our Building Organisational Resilience course, at Practitioner level, helps you close that gap - applying recognised frameworks (including BS 65000 and ISO 22316) to assess vulnerabilities, learn from real-world disruption scenarios, and design a practical resilience roadmap that brings continuity, risk and governance together.

It's a two-day, residential course (with a short e-learning module beforehand) for anyone in resilience, continuity, risk or operational decision-making roles - including public sector, CNI, and business continuity practitioners - who's ready to move beyond awareness into practitioner-level capability.
