Farewell Sally

Today, long standing staff, governors and parishioners joined together for the funeral of Sally Ward-Enticott at St Andrew’s Church.

Sally was previously a governor of St John’s and was a long time committed supporter of our school community.

She and her husband Peter, often attended school events and were always enquiring about the school and how things were whenever they saw anyone from the school.

She will be sorely missed but remembered fondly by our school community.

Please keep her husband Peter and children James and Emma in your prayers.

Buddies lunch!

Oak and Big Acorns had a fantastic time on the field for their buddies lunch today. It is so nice to see how nurturing and kind the older children are towards their buddies and how much the Big Acorns look up to their Oak buddies.

Pentecost Sunday- Songs of Praise

To celebrate Pentecost Sunday, Aled Jones visits John Wesley’s New Room in Bristol, the oldest Methodist building in the world, to explore the extraordinary story and legacy of John and Charles Wesley, who founded the Methodist movement.

Just like the disciples of Jesus at the first Pentecost, the Wesley brothers had their own encounters with the Holy Spirit in 1738, which lit a fire inside them to spread the word of God. John’s experience is remembered as Aldersgate Day by the millions of Methodist Christians across the world, and this year, it falls on the exact same day as Pentecost Sunday.

Aled meets historian Paul Marshall to discover how this profound spiritual experience transformed John Wesley into one of the most influential figures in Christian history.

In Devon, we join local children enjoying an immersive experience to help them learn about the world of the Wesleys. Volunteers transport the youngsters back to the 1700s with costumes and even a hymn-writing workshop to show how the Methodist message is still relevant today.

And back in Bristol, Aled visits Turnaround, a charity firmly built on the principles of John and Charles Wesley to help the homeless and vulnerable in the city.

With hymns and songs for Pentecost Sunday, including specially recorded Charles Wesley classics from the New Room in Bristol.

1. O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing – John Wesley's New Room, Bristol

2. And Can It Be That I Should Gain – John Wesley's New Room, Bristol

3. O Thou Who Camest From Above – Canterbury Cathedral

4. Holy Spirit You Are Welcome Here – Saint Wilfrid Church, Bognor Regis

5. Cornerstone – Christ Church Downend, Bristol

6. Love Divine, All Love Excelling – John Wesley's New Room, Bristol

A fun day for Acorns outside!

The children really immersed themselves in their play today, spending long periods in the sand and water areas to explore capacity and the effects of gravity in a practical way. They strengthened their core muscles when climbing and pulling themselves up to the slide and used large construction materials to build and balance, creating zones for their role play. They enjoyed snipping fragrant leaves in the cutting tray and practicing our latest maths focus on the chalk boards. Some children made rockets and blasted them off in the wind outside! Finally, they loved using the new area next to the new fence for football and bats and bean bags.

Operation New Fence!

We needed to remove some old fallen down fencing and a large overgrown bush from our field area and create this new fence between the field and Acorn’s outdoor area.
After school today, this work was completed and we thought the children might enjoy a sneaky peak of what happens at school when they’re not there with tractors on the school field!

A big thank you to Mr Webber and Mr Berry for completing this new fence for us.
