We had a fantastic evening yesterday at the International Women’s Day event hosted by UNISON Stockton at Dunedin House.💜

It was wonderful meeting so many people, sharing what we do at Foster with North East and celebrating the strength, achievements, and voices of inspiring women in our community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand to speak to our foster carer Mel and assessor Danielle - your conversations, curiosity, and support mean so much to us.

Fostering or Adoption: What’s the Difference?

It’s a question lots of people ask - and understanding the difference can really help if you’re thinking about caring for a child. Both fostering and adoption change lives, but they follow very different paths, with their own responsibilities and rewards.

We’ve put together a simple breakdown to help you compare things like:

🧡 Training
🧡 Legal responsibility
🧡 Financial support
🧡 Timescales
🧡 And more

Are you considering fostering versus adoption and wondering which is right for you? While fostering and adoption both offer a way to change a child's life, the two which are often confused are, in reality, distinctly different things, though they can sometimes be interlinked.

You don’t need any specific qualifications to become a foster carer. What matters most is your motivation to make a positive difference in the lives of children across our region.

We’re looking for individuals and couples who can be someone's rock - who are motivated to shape the lives of children in our region for the better.

Like Gavin and Stefan, you may already have valuable skills from other parts of your life - and those can make a real impact in fostering.

📞🤔✍️ The Foster with North East hub is here to help you explore how fostering could fit into your life. Our team offers clear guidance and support as you begin your fostering journey with your local council.

Now's the time, visit fosterwithnortheast.org.uk or call 0800 917 771 to find out more.

Did you know that there are no limitations to fostering based on sexuality and gender?

What’s important is that you can meet the needs of a child and provide the support and care they need.

To mark New Family Social's LGBTQ+ Fostering and Adoption Week, we're highlighting some of our brilliant carers from the Foster with North East community. 🌈

This is the story of Gavin and Stefan, short-term foster carers who care for a baby with a plan for adoption. In the video, they talk about why they chose fostering, their role and experiences, how fostering has impacted other children in their home, and the support they receive as local council foster carers.

🌟 Adventure Awaits! 🌟

Yesterday, 11 children from our Mockingbird Constellations took part in an incredible Adventures Away From Home day at Tees Barrage - all made possible through the UK Youth initiative to support outdoor learning and connection with nature.

From conquering the Tees Active Air Trail high above the water to taking to the river for kayaking, everyone embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination. 🚣‍♂️🧗‍♀️

A huge thank‑you to both the UK Youth for funding this opportunity and the Tees Active team for helping create unforgettable moments, new skills, and plenty of smiles. 💚

Here’s to more adventure, confidence-building, and time spent outdoors together in the future! 🌿✨

🌟 Kids Who Care Day! 🌟

Three times a year we get to celebrate our superstar young people - the ones who bring kindness, patience and big hearts to every fostering household. Today was all about fun, friendship, and a well‑deserved treat to say thank you.

We spent the afternoon bowling and battling it out at mini golf, with plenty of smiles (and a few strikes!) along the way. 🎳⛳

A huge well done to all of our brilliant young people - you make such a difference in our fostering community, welcoming children into your home and we’re so proud of you!

When you foster for Stockton… we care because you do. 🫂

🌟 Care Day 2026 🌟

Today we celebrate care‑experienced children, young people and adults — their strength, their resilience, and their powerful voices.

In Stockton, a group of care-experienced young people came together to create something truly inspiring: a set of lyrics that speak honestly about challenge, hope, and the determination to build a brighter future.

Their words reflect the reality many care‑experienced young people face - breaking free from barriers, holding on to their dreams, and pushing forward even when the world feels heavy.

🎵 Their message is clear:
No matter your past, your voice matters.
Your dreams matter.
Your future is yours to shape.

On Care Day, we recognise every young person who keeps going, keeps believing, and keeps rising. We are proud of you — today and every day. 🧡
