It was wonderful to attend the Sports Experience Day at Breckland Leisure Centre last week.

The event supports enabling children with disabilities to access sports and brings together over thirty different sporting activities, which the children can take part in through a taster session day.

This year's event, was attended by over 550 children.

It was a wonderful day, complete with attendance from VIP guests and sporting celebrities for the children to meet, including Frank Bruno MBE, and Peter Shilton CBE, amongst others.

It was a brilliant, well attended day, thank you to the organisers for inviting the Mayor along to be part of the event.

On Saturday, the Mayor of Thetford attended the Groovy Party on the Common. It was a fantastic community event, and it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the day!

Thank you to everyone who made the event possible and to those who joined us in celebrating this occasion for the town.

We look forward to the next event later this summer and hope to see everyone out supporting it!

Thank you to all who supported and bought ticket for the raffle at yesterday’s Groovy Party on the Common.

The winning tickets were drawn on site and announced, all prizes have been taken to the Thetford Town Council offices at The Carnegie, where they can be collected by the winners.

A lovely morning at St Cuthbert’s Church holding my Mayor’s Civic Service.

We were lucky to be joined by a representative for the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, the High Sheriff of Norfolk and several Mayors and representatives from neighbouring councils.

I walked with my fellow councillors and was greeted at the church by past Mayors and many parishioners from St Cuthbert's Church, Thetford

PRESS RELEASE:
Councillor Vic Peters elected Mayor of Thetford for 2026/27

Councillor Vic Peters was installed as Mayor of Thetford for 2026/27 at Thetford Town Council’s annual Mayor Making Ceremony on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. His wife, Joanne Peters, will serve alongside him as Mayoress.
The ceremony took place at Thetford Guildhall in the presence of town councillors, guests and members of the public. Cllr Peters took the oath of office as the mayoral chain was handed over by the 2025/26 Mayor, Cllr Carla Barreto.
A resident of Thetford for 19 years, Cllr Peters is a well-known member of the community and worked as a postman in the town for several years. He is a strong advocate for access to sport for all and is an active member of both Thetford Town Cricket Club and Thetford Rugby Club, having served on the board of each.
He has represented Burrell Ward on Thetford Town Council since 2023 and continues to actively support residents across the town.
In his address, Cllr Peters outlined his priorities for the year ahead, with a strong focus on supporting local community groups. He said, “My priority for the upcoming year is to be community-focused. I aim to attend as many of the wonderful groups that make up our great community as possible.
My charity activities will primarily focus on youth organisations, but I will also support groups involved in sport, community activities, and the arts. Three of the groups I would like to highlight are Thetford Boxing Club, 3rd Thetford Scouts and the Summer School of Thetford Voices. I will also be working to support other sports and community groups across the town and would encourage them to get in touch via the Civic Officer.”
Cllr Peters also paid tribute to the outgoing Mayor, praising her work in supporting the town over the past year. He thanked fellow councillors and former Mayors for their encouragement and advice since his nomination for the role was announced earlier this year.
During the ceremony, Councillor Mac MacDonald MBE was appointed Deputy Mayor, with his wife, Sue MacDonald, serving as Deputy Mayoress. Together, they will support the new Mayor in his role and represent the Town Council at various events.

On Tuesday night (May 19th), Councillor Vic Peters was installed as Town Mayor of Thetford, with his wife, Joanne Peters, taking on the role of Mayoress. Cllr Peters spoke of his intentions for his Mayoral year, including attending as many community groups as possible that make the town so strong.

Councillor Mac MacDonald was appointed Deputy Mayor, with his wife, Sue MacDonald, serving as Deputy Mayoress. Their support will be invaluable to the Mayor throughout the year ahead.

The evening was a very well attended Mayor Making, and Cllr Peters would like to thank all who attended.

A very special thanks to Magic Floor Productions choir, who sang at the service and St Cuthbert’s Church for kindly allowing the Mayor to host his reception there.

The event will take place at The Thomas Paine Hotel from 2pm.
Tickets are £15 per person, and families are welcome.
