POSTING ON BEHALF OF UDC :

RE: Waste collections starting from 6am this week
Importance: High

Due to the amber weather warning for hot weather throughout the remainder of this week, our collection crews will be commencing collections from 6.00am, to try and reduce exposure during the hottest part of the day. The warning is currently at amber however, if this rises to a red warning we are likely to suspend collections and recommence on Saturday, or next Monday. We are advertising this on the council’s website and social media pages however, if you could also please arrange to share this message with your parishioners this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Posting on behalf of Thaxted Twinning Association
Thaxted Twinning Association had the most amazing long weekend with our Twinning friends in St. Vrain, France 5 – 8 June 2026. We have been twinned now for nearly 30 years!
We have long standing members and younger families who enjoy exchanging and being warmly welcomed and hosted. It is not necessary to speak French but is also ideal for younger members who wish to improve their spoken French and anybody else!
The only cost for Thaxted Twinning members is the Euro Star from St.Pancras – Gare du Nord (children of members travel FREE). People can also opt to travel by their own means.
We are looking forward to receiving and hosting members/families of the Jumelage St. Vrain next May 2027. We already have plans to entertain them in Thaxted (paid for by TTA and not host families).
Please can you let us know if you live in Thaxted or surrounding areas if you would like to become a member of Thaxted Twinning Association and host a family next year. This would automatically enable you to return to St. Vrain in 2028.
Please see our website that gives information about Thaxted Twinning and a good tourist guide to Thaxted and St.Vrain, France www.thaxtedtwinning.co.uk

Thaxted Parish Council have today put in new bedding plants in the six planters for summer; two outside the Guildhall and four others in the town. These are young plants for the moment and will give a great show in a few weeks. Many thanks to our volunteers who helped today/previously and all our volunteers who keep watering/maintaining. Our autumn and spring displays in the planters were quite outstanding!
Special thanks to Thaxted Library who give us a water supply when open and to Gifted who make sure the planter outside their shop is watered and to Ed & Lorna who water and maintain the two planters outside the Guildhall. We also have a great volunteer - Sam who has steadfastly spent an hour every Friday for the last year watering and deadheading.
The two other planters outside the Bullring have also kindly been replanted by Nick & Hitesh for many years, using their own scheme and we give thanks to them also.
TOGETHER WE MAKE THAXTED AN ATTRACTIVE TOWN FOR BOTH RESIDENTS AND VISITORS.
If you would like to help in maintaining our planters – PLEASE CONTACT: [email protected]

Thaxted Parish Council have 12 x A4 Vinyl Prints with sticky back “20 IS PLENTY” signs. FREE!
The poster was from the winner of our competition at Thaxted Primary School last year. You may have noticed some permanent signs around Thaxted using this splendid artwork! We are hoping to encourage motorists to SLOW DOWN when driving through our Historic Town and Approach Roads. The limit is of course 30 mph at present BUT 20 mph would be even better…. (especially near our school and town centre).
It would be ideal if these adhesive prints could be placed where motorists can see them e.g. on your front door, wheelie bin (especially on collection days) etc.
So, if you would like one, PLEASE CONTACT: [email protected]
