***Update from West Berkshire Council on Lower Way Road Closure***
These works have been extended to 18th September 2026 due to the levels in the sewer system reaching maximum capacity and needing to be drawn off by tankers whilst the repair is in progress at the site with the leak.

*** Road Closure - Lower Way ***
**Update from West Berkshire Council**: these works have been extended to 18th September 2026 due to the levels in the sewer system reaching maximum capacity and needing to be drawn off by tankers whilst the repair is in progress at the site with the leak.

West Berkshire Council have informed us Lower Way is closed from the A4 London Road junction to approximately 140m East along Lower Way from Monday 31st August - Friday 4th September.
Please note the finish date for these works may be extended beyond this initial closure.

This closure is for emergency works by Thames Water to mitigate flows to prevent customer issues of internal flooding and avoid any environmental impact. Tankers are required on Lower Way to pump sewage from the sewer to reduce flood risk

Blue light will remain available where possible.
Residents will need to follow the diversion route for access.

With Autumn approaching, now is a great time to get ahead of the cold draughts in your home or workplace by getting on the waiting list to borrow one of our Thermal Image Cameras!

This borrowing scheme is open to all Thatcham residents and requires a refundable £10 cash deposit.

The Thermal Image Camera can you help identify cold spots in your home/workplace through the images it generates which can be easily downloaded and used to identify potential areas for maintenance to improve the property’s insulation.

The Jubilee Sensory Garden Coffee Morning will be taking place inside the Council Chamber this morning (10:00am-12:00pm) - follow the path in the garden, through the open gate and into the council offices.

We will be doing lavender based activities today💐

These coffee morning sessions have been funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, thanks to players.

Join us this Friday 4th September for the first of our monthly Jubilee Sensory Garden Coffee Mornings.

From 10am until 12pm, come and share a couple of hours with our resident gardener Polly over a free tea, coffee and cake! We'll be doing lavender based activities and, if it's wet? No problem! We'll head inside to the council chamber.

Where's the Mayor!

Let's see where the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Thatcham have been of late…

The Mayor of Thatcham, Cllr Mark Lillycrop, has been spotted at various events, such as KATS - Kennet Amateur Theatrical Society performance of Allo Allo, Afrofest by Community United, a fundraising coffee morning with Thatcham Cancer Support Group, celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of Thatcham & District Philatelic Society, and KidsFest!

The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Petra Pemberton, has also been spotted 'under the sea' at Kidsfest alongside Mr Mayor!
