In September there are variety of road closure which may affect your journey when travelling in and around Thame. These road closures include:

Wentworth Road:
On Friday 11 September from 8am – Tuesday 15 September until 4pm, a road closure will be implemented to carry out micro surfacing works on Wentworth Road and Fairfax Close. The barrier will be opened for resident vehicles. This is a 24 hour daily road closure.

Fleetwood Way:
On Monday 14 September from 8am – Friday 18 September until 4pm, a road closure will be implemented to carry out micro surfacing works on Fleetwood Way. This is a 24 hour daily road closure.

Milton Common, A40 London Road:
On Monday 21 September from 7am – Tuesday 22 September until 7pm, a road closure and diversion route will be implemented to carry out carriageway resurfacing remedial works. The works will be carried out on A40 London Road, Milton Common between A329 Junction and access road to Lobb Farm. This is a 24 hour daily road closure.

Thame Road, B4445 Chinnor:
On Monday 21 September from 7am – Thursday 8 October until 6:30pm, a road closure and diversion route will be implemented to carry out surfacing, drainage and associated works. The road closure will be from junction of B4445 and Chinnor Road until 300m southbound. This is a 24 hour daily road closure.

September Street Fair:
On Wednesday 16 September from 4pm – Sunday 20 September until midday, a road closure and diversion route will be implemented for the return of the September Street fair on Thame High Street, Cornmarket, Butter Market and Upper High Street. This is a 24 hour daily road closure. For more information on this road closure and getting a resident access permit, visit our website.

The Planning Committee met on 1 September and considered a range of planning applications; Members agreed with Officer recommendations.

The Committee discussed the South Oxfordshire District Council planning system updates and the impact of this on residents and planning consultations. To ensure applications can continue to be considered by the Town Council within compressed timescales, Members agreed that additional Planning Committee meetings will be held when required.

Full minutes will be published on the Town Council’s website as soon as they are available.

We are aware residents are interested to know if there is any update on the proposed Lidl site on Aylesbury Road. The Town Council will review consultee responses to the latest submitted information to understand the current application status and will share any updates in our newsletter.

Over the last month, the Town Hall has undertaken a series of refurbishments to keep the building looking s***k and span in the heart of Thame!

These refurbishments included freshly painted doors and window frames by 24/7 Property Maintenance, scaffolding by Connect Scaffolding Services and cleaning and repairs to our Town Hall sign and noticeboard by Thame Shed.

Thank you to all the businesses for their hard work and making our Town Hall look brand new again! Additionally, we are pleased to announce that the water fountain that was temporarily out of order, will be back in use this week!

Bookings are now open for Thame’s annual Senior Citizens Christmas Tea Party on Wednesday 2 December at the Thame Barns Centre!

Every year, Senior Citizens are invited to the Tea Party to celebrate the festive season. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis. To reserve your place, please either pop into the Information Centre in the Town Hall, call 01844 212 833, or email [email protected]

If you would like to volunteer for the event on the day or are able to offer transport to and from the Barns Centre, please leave your details in the Information Centre or email [email protected]

“Benny” the Benson trishaw came to visit Thame on Saturday 22nd August, for residents to see and try out, as part of the Cycling Without Age movement. Thame Mayor, Cllr Andy Gilbert, and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Andy Wainwright were given the opportunity to try out a trishaw, pedalled by Chair of SODC, Cllr Andrea Powell, and went to visit local care homes in Thame.

Cycling Without Age is a worldwide movement that aims to provide joy and vitality to older adults through the magic of the bicycle. Through the simple act of sharing a bike ride, it weaves a sense of community and gathers unique and invaluable stories, unlocked only by the wind and wheels. Trishaws typically carry two passengers, however there are also ones available that can take a wheelchair to enable wheelchair users to get out into the fresh air!

Please note the Town Hall will be closed on Monday 31 August due to the Bank Holiday. Your bins will be collected a day later next week. A reminder that, as usual, there is to be no overnight parking in the Upper High Street car park on Monday night, so that the market traders can set up on Tuesday.
