✨What a wonderful weekend!✨

On Friday evening, I was proud to represent Tewkesbury at the official opening of the Kidderminster Town Hall. This special event celebrated the unveiling of a new plaque and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the stunningly refurbished building. Such a fantastic milestone for the community!

Sunday was a time for reflection as we gathered for Remembrance Sunday. We attended a beautiful service at Tewkesbury Abbey, followed by an act of remembrance at The Cross, where wreaths were laid in memory of all those who have served.

The weekend finished with the Movember Shanty Buoys: Sea Shanty Pub Sing-Along at The Black Bear. A brilliant evening supporting the Movember Foundation, raising awareness and funds for men’s health, mental wellbeing, and cancer research.

A weekend full of community, reflection, and connection; feeling very grateful to be part of it all.

🌟 A Wonderful Evening Celebrating Art &
& Heritage 🌟

Tonight, I had the absolute pleasure of opening the "Felt Far and Wide" exhibition. A beautiful celebration of textile art, cultural connection, and storytelling.

Hosted by the ever-inspiring Helen, the evening brought together a room full of creative spirit, conversation, and community.

I was honoured to say a few words as Deputy Mayor and to share in the joy of seeing such remarkable work by two incredibly talented artists: Hilly and Martine.

Their work in felting weaves personal history, global influence, and deep-rooted tradition into every piece. Using wool, they’ve created pieces that are both delicate and powerful, reminding us of the beauty in craft and the magic of transformation.

Art like this tells stories, holds heritage, and brings us closer together. Whether through fabric, music, paint, or the written word, creativity is what connects us to history and to each other.

A heartfelt thank you to Helen for organising such a meaningful evening, and to Hilly and Martine for sharing your artistry with us all.

🎶 What a phenomenal evening! 🎶

The Mayor’s Charity Concert celebrating the songs of Jacques Brel was nothing short of brilliant. From powerful performances to heartfelt moments, the event showcased an incredible array of Tewkesbury talent, and we couldn’t be more proud!

A huge congratulations to Mayor Alan Hayes for putting together such a fantastic evening. The energy, passion, and community spirit in the room were truly special. It’s events like this that remind us just how rich our local arts scene is, and how lucky we are to have it right here in Tewkesbury.

👏🏾 Bravo to everyone who took part, performed, helped behind the scenes, and came along to support the show. What a night to remember, and all for a great cause! ✨

Today, we gathered at Tewkesbury Methodist Church to mark the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

It was a poignant occasion that brought our community together to reflect and remember. We were honoured to hear a moving poem written and read by Cllr Rod Gurney, retired Squadron Leader of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

A time of silence allowed us to honour the bravery and sacrifice of all those who have served.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped ensure that their memory lives on.

We will remember them.

Today, I had the honour of attending the 80th Anniversary VJ Day Flag Flying Ceremony in Kidderminster.

Held outside Wyre Forest House, the event brought together members of the community to mark a deeply significant moment in our shared history, the end of the war in the Far East and, effectively, the end of the Second World War (formally concluded on 2 September 1945).

In a time where many across the globe are still living through conflict, it reminds us how vital it is to advocate for peace, understanding, and unity.

Thank you to Wyre Forest District Council and Cllr Paul Harrison for hosting such a moving and respectful tribute.

It was a real honour to attend the Musica Deo Sacra 2025 Festival today at Tewkesbury Abbey.

During High Mass this morning, the Very Reverend Dr Simon Jones, Dean of Lincoln Cathedral, delivered a deeply thoughtful sermon reflecting on the transatlantic slave trade through the lens of the Beatitudes.

As today, 30 July, marks a time to reflect on the history and enduring legacy of slavery, it felt especially meaningful to be reminded of the courage and conviction of those who stood for justice. Dr Jones’s words brought to mind the tireless efforts of figures such as Thomas Clarkson, Olaudah Equiano, and William Wilberforce, individuals whose impact on the abolition movement still resonates today.

A profound and memorable morning. I’m grateful to have been there.

What an incredible weekend here in Tewkesbury! The Tewkesbury Live Free Music Festival 2025 brought our town to life with music on every corner.

I had the pleasure of visiting venues across town, chatting with musicians and festival-goers, taking photos, and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. From lively pub stages to outdoor performances and family entertainment, the festival showcased the best of what our community can create when we come together.

It was also a joy to help out with fundraising efforts, selling programmes, festival pint cups, and wristbands, all raising vital funds to keep this event free for everyone.

A huge thank you to everyone who made it happen: the amazing team at Tewkesbury Town Council, the dedicated volunteers, the talented performers, our fantastic venues, and all of you who came out to support local music.

This was truly a weekend to treasure. Here's to keeping the music alive and to many more festivals to come!

What a day at the Cheltenham Rugby 7s Festival, a huge thank you to Jack Petelo for the incredible invite!

🏉 It was brilliant to witness both the women’s and men’s matches, and to hear Rich Whincup bringing great energy in the commentary box.

👋🏾 Loved meeting inspiring people at the stalls, and dancing into the night to live music on the main stage.

A massive thank you to the organisers, partners, and everyone involved in making it such a well-run and fun-filled evening.

What a week for Tewkesbury!

As Deputy Town Mayor, I’ve had the privilege of representing our wonderful town across a series of truly inspiring events, and I’m absolutely thrilled to share highlights of this busy and meaningful week.

🏰 Last weekend we delved headlong into history at the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival, officially one of the largest free medieval reenactments in Europe, set right on the historic battlefield and featuring a dramatic reenactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury (4 May 1471). This decisive clash saw King Edward IV’s Yorkist forces triumph over the Lancastrian army, with Prince Edward of Westminster tragically killed in the battle. It was a powerful reminder of how our town shaped the course of British history. The festival atmosphere was electric with knights, archers, stalls, medieval music, crafts, and spectators from all over the world. A heartfelt thank you to the organisers, volunteers, reenactors, and everyone who made it happen!

📚 Earlier this week, we welcomed Year Six pupils from our local primary schools to Tewkesbury Abbey for their Leavers’ Service. It was a beautiful, moving celebration as the students reflected on their primary school journey, celebrating the friendships formed, lessons learned, and memories made that have shaped them into who they are today. It was such a privilege to be part of it all and watch these bright young people prepare themselves for the next chapter.

🛍️ I also had the chance to visit the newly opened Cotswold Designer Outlet, which has already started drawing interest from visitors near and far. I’m excited to see how it will support local jobs, tourism, and economic growth.

Fantastic to speak at Changes in Waves, Windrush 2025: Belonging, Being, Becoming.

As Chair of Tewkesbury Voices, it was truly heartwarming to see our community come together to reflect, remember, and celebrate. From powerful stories and poetry to moving drama, beautiful singing, and incredible performances.

This event reminded us of the strength, resilience, and enduring legacy of those who journeyed from the Caribbean to serve and shape this country. Thank you to all the artists, storytellers, and attendees. Our diversity is our strength.
