SARA Tewkesbury is a part of the Severn Area Rescue Association, which operates lifeboat and inland search and rescue across a large area from seven rescue stations, from Newport to Kidderminster and Cirencester. 🚨 A great day at the Community & Emergency Services Day! 🚨

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to see us at Cotswolds Designer Outlet yesterday. It was brilliant to meet so many members of the local community, chat about the work we do and answer your questions about volunteering with SARA.

Our team had a fantastic time alongside the many other emergency services and community organisations who attended. It was a great opportunity to showcase the people behind SARA and the vital work our volunteers carry out across the area. 💙

It was a pleasure to speak with Marcus from SARA (Severn Area Rescue Association) at the Community and Emergency Services Day at the Cotswolds Designer Outlet and to hear about the extraordinary work SARA does along the rivers Avon, Severn, Usk, and Wye.

SARA is a volunteer search and rescue organisation supporting the emergency services across land and water. Its 200 volunteers, operating from seven search and rescue stations, including Tewkesbury, respond to more than 100 call-outs every year.

Working closely with the Coastguard, Fire and Rescue Services, and Police, their teams undertake cliff and mud rescue, flood and inland water response, land searches, and lifeboat operations. SARA also provides inshore lifeboat cover on parts of the Severn and Usk not covered by the RNLI.

Alongside emergency response, SARA provides water-safety education and training, with opportunities to get involved in both specialist and non-operational roles.

Their skill, dedication, time, and resources make an enormous difference to the communities that they serve.

Some of our team members will be at the Community & Emergency Services Day at Cotswolds Designer Outlet tomorrow, Sunday 6 September, from 10:30am–4:30pm.

Come along and meet members of the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA), find out more about what we do, the vital work our volunteers carry out across the community, and how you could get involved.

We did it! Huge congratulations to our SRT crew who completed the full distance of our Swimathon yesterday - 36km over 12hrs, the equivalent of swimming the English Channel! 🏊🏻‍♂️

From 9am-9pm, the Team swam multiple widths of the river Avon at The Fleet Inn, Twyning. Thanks to both The Fleet Inn and Avon Navigation Trust for their support.

A big thank you also to those who donated, supported and cheered us on throughout the day! Your generosity makes a real difference and helps us continue our work in the community!

🚨 ROPE TEAM RESCUES Ruth Lee Ltd. AGAIN. 🪢

Our hapless rescue dummy, Ruth Lee, found herself in difficulty on Cleeve Common last night, giving our technical rope rescue team and colleagues from SARA Cotswolds the opportunity to hone their skills.

Just to reassure anyone who sees this — Ruth is a training dummy, not a real casualty! 😄

A first responder descended to the casualty, who was found to be, surprisingly, unresponsive… The rest of the team rigged a tensioned trackline system and lowered a stretcher to our first responder, who packaged Ruth before she was lifted away from the cliff face and lowered to safe ground below.

Pleased to say Ruth is doing well, though seemingly speechless from her adventure!

In just 24 hours, our SRT crew will be taking to the River Avon at The Fleet Inn, Twyning, for the SARA Tewkesbury Swimathon.

For 12 hours, from 9am to 9pm, the team will swim multiple widths of the Avon, working together to cover an incredible 36km — the equivalent of swimming the English Channel! 🇬🇧🌊
