As Cllr Eade said at last night's Annual General Meeting of Telford & Wrekin Council, shutting down debate is a sign of weakness. The rise in FOI requests is a symptom of the secrecy and control of information the Labour administration has created.

Conservative Group Leader, Cllr Andrew Eade, is giving his speech.

He highlights the £250k spend on the council chamber in Southwater yet they still have columns between them.

Cllr Eade says he's going to give temporary relief to the self congratulation and back slapping. He said that the council never used to be like this, councillors used to work together and it's a sign of weakness when they close down debate.

He criticises the way opposition motions are "butchered" and the filling of scrutiny committees with Labour councillors to scrutinise themselves.

Cllr Eade says that Labour are going to lose control of the council and refers to Lord Sahota's comments to the press recently saying that they are going to be wiped out. If looks could kill, Cllr England would be up in a murder charge for the long stare he gave Lord Sahota who is sitting in the audience.

He criticised the Labour administration's plans to build all over the countryside and the lack of consultation with other groups. He says that they will be judged for what they're doing.

He asks why the council has done nothing to protect residents from leasehold management fees and says that they are being double taxed.

Cllr Eade points out that his administration put part of the Town Park into Fields in Trust to stop Labour's plans to build apartments in the arena.

He finished by committing his opposition to Telford & Wrekin joining the West Midlands Combined Authority and being run by bankrupt Birmingham. Shaun Davies MP has asked for the law to be changed so that the borough can join and Cllr Carter has expressed his preference for handing control of the borough over to Birmingham.

The Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, Cllr Lee Carter, has given a 10 minute speech.

He starts by criticising the opposition for opposing him and blaming the Conservatives for their problems despite Labour being in power for the last two years.

He says that they are supporting residents with the lowest Council Tax in the West Midlands which they increased by 5% again last year.

Cllr Carter says that potholes are repaired within 7 days. He might regret making that claim. 🤦🏻‍♂️

He says the next chapter for Telford & Wrekin won't be written by chance and his administration will be there. Oh, Lee. 😄

Cllr Raj Mehta has been elected Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Ian Preece joked that if there is a camera within 5½ miles Cllr Mehta will be there. It is laughable but remember that the council PR team that takes all these pictures costs the taxpayer £1m per year.
