In the next few days I will be delivering the following text to your homes in Holmer Lake Ward. It will look better in print. Facebook has very limited text design. If I could I would prefer to email this direct.

I have been a councillor with the Parish for over 12 years. I’ve had the fortune to live in Holmer Lake Ward nearly 19 years. It is the best home move I have ever made. I’m sure many of you feel just as contented living here.

I am here to help.
Part of being a parish councillor is making time for the residents in the Ward. If you need assistance with matters that relate to Parish business, I am here to give advice and in some circumstances look into resolving your concern.

Holmer Lake is a Local Nature Reserve.
Last September Holmer Lake, the water and surrounding land, was made a Local Nature Reserve. Friends of Holmer Lake has been working towards obtaining this recognition for a long time, and a TWC employee has also contributed. FoHL are always in need of volunteers. This new status means that dogs must be kept on leads on paths around the lake.
Holmer Lake Ward is safe and quiet.
Compared with other wards in the parish, Holmer Lake is one of least concern to Parish because of its very low criminal activity. Most of it is confined to the carparking areas by the lake, in the form of litter, drugs and fly tipping. The recent addition of bollards on the top carpark has curbed the joy-riders there.
We can make Holmer Lake Ward better.
Even so, there are minor problems. We all have a duty to ensure there is equal freedom to move about, no matter what our physical abilities. The following can be done to improve access for everyone in this area:
o Cutting back shrubs and hedges which grow across a footpath
o Keeping your tree branches higher than 2 meters above a footpath
o Sweeping your driveway stone chips off the pavement
o Not parking on the pavement.
It is a requirement under the Highways Act 1980 that public paths be kept free of any sort of obstruction, and measures can be taken to enforce the removal of overgrowth. So cut back now before nesting starts.
In some parts of Holmer Lake Ward there is no need to park on the pavement at all. Where housing is denser, it is more difficult to avoid. Even so, there has to be consideration for pedestrians with wheelchairs and prams, who could be forced into the road - sometimes with children accompanying.
If for some reason you are unable to oblige by removing your obstructions and debris, please contact me and I will see if the Parish can help you.
Keep in touch, save paper, email me for updates.
