Maninplace is an non-for-profit accommodation and support provider for people rough sleeping or homeless in Telford and Wrekin and was established in October 2006 It was set up to assist those who are homeless and unable to access social housing or the private sector housing market due to limited income, or life style. Maninplace is committed to working with the marginalised of our society who ar
e deprived of their basic right to have a home. We work to break down the barriers that prevent homeless people from accessing accommodation and assist them to access permanent housing, support services and ,opportunities to gain employment. We aim to achieve this by
• Acquiring property.
• Providing accommodation that is affordable.
• Being proactive in campaigning for the rights of non-statutory.
• Providing positive tenancy and management support.
• Working in partnership with existing homeless services.
• Proving sessions in budgeting and life skills.
• Encouraging employment and workability. As a not-for-profit community interest company, Maninplace recruits and trains staff from a wide range of backgrounds and skills. The Staff Team are made up of both salaried people and volunteers. They are required to be positive in approach, be able to offer tenancy management, care, support, maintenance advice, be involved in rent collecting and accounting, training, administration and fundraising. The aim of all staff is to:
Assist customers to access temporary accommodation and services that will enable them to meet their full potential, both emotionally and spiritually. Assist them to experience and improve quality of life and move into permanent accommodation. Maninplace has acquired a wide mix of accommodation for those presenting to partner projects and organisations across Telford, as rough sleeping or homeless. Along with its partners Maninplace is working with those who have difficulty accessing Local Authority support / care services. This is often due to many homeless people not fitting defined service criteria, despite the fact that they have alcohol and/or drugs addictions, poor Mental health, and generally poor physical health that becomes exacerbated by their homelessness,
For some, the experience of homelessness is not a new one, many have been without accommodation for a number of years. They have felt marginalised and are not catered for on the whole by existing Care and Support services. The experience of homelessness affects individuals in different ways; many survive by excessive alcohol consumption, others by criminal activities, drug addiction and most will experience a decline in health and wellbeing. Many are dependent on welfare benefits for their source of income, often unable to work due to the impact their homelessness has on them. They have been used to surviving by living in cars, sheds, tents and hedge rows, many smoke, drink alcohol excessively and eat scraps, instant foods that lack proper protein and fall short of a balanced nutritious diet. Survival often being the paramount challenge each day, will often obscure other important requirements. This has long term health implications. Having established the need, Maninplace has placed itself in “the gap” to provide accessible accommodation and to assist people who are living chaotic life styles on the streets or in transient living arrangements.
