Maninplace

Maninplace Maninplace is a not-for-profit organisation responding to people who present as rough sleeping or homeless in the borough of Telford and Wrekin.

Maninplace is an non-for-profit accommodation and support provider for people rough sleeping or homeless in Telford and Wrekin and was established in October 2006 It was set up to assist those who are homeless and unable to access social housing or the private sector housing market due to limited income, or life style. Maninplace is committed to working with the marginalised of our society who ar

e deprived of their basic right to have a home. We work to break down the barriers that prevent homeless people from accessing accommodation and assist them to access permanent housing, support services and ,opportunities to gain employment. We aim to achieve this by
• Acquiring property.
• Providing accommodation that is affordable.
• Being proactive in campaigning for the rights of non-statutory.
• Providing positive tenancy and management support.
• Working in partnership with existing homeless services.
• Proving sessions in budgeting and life skills.
• Encouraging employment and workability. As a not-for-profit community interest company, Maninplace recruits and trains staff from a wide range of backgrounds and skills. The Staff Team are made up of both salaried people and volunteers. They are required to be positive in approach, be able to offer tenancy management, care, support, maintenance advice, be involved in rent collecting and accounting, training, administration and fundraising. The aim of all staff is to:
Assist customers to access temporary accommodation and services that will enable them to meet their full potential, both emotionally and spiritually. Assist them to experience and improve quality of life and move into permanent accommodation. Maninplace has acquired a wide mix of accommodation for those presenting to partner projects and organisations across Telford, as rough sleeping or homeless. Along with its partners Maninplace is working with those who have difficulty accessing Local Authority support / care services. This is often due to many homeless people not fitting defined service criteria, despite the fact that they have alcohol and/or drugs addictions, poor Mental health, and generally poor physical health that becomes exacerbated by their homelessness,

For some, the experience of homelessness is not a new one, many have been without accommodation for a number of years. They have felt marginalised and are not catered for on the whole by existing Care and Support services. The experience of homelessness affects individuals in different ways; many survive by excessive alcohol consumption, others by criminal activities, drug addiction and most will experience a decline in health and wellbeing. Many are dependent on welfare benefits for their source of income, often unable to work due to the impact their homelessness has on them. They have been used to surviving by living in cars, sheds, tents and hedge rows, many smoke, drink alcohol excessively and eat scraps, instant foods that lack proper protein and fall short of a balanced nutritious diet. Survival often being the paramount challenge each day, will often obscure other important requirements. This has long term health implications. Having established the need, Maninplace has placed itself in “the gap” to provide accessible accommodation and to assist people who are living chaotic life styles on the streets or in transient living arrangements.

At Midnight and over the following 24 hours, the annual rough sleeper count will commence across the Telford and Wrekin borough, undertaken by the Stay Outreach team, KiP, Maninplace and Telford & Wrekin Council.

The annual count sets out to establish a snapshot of the number people sleeping rough in a 24-hour period, across the whole of England, with our focus being on the Telford and Wrekin borough. This is an important day for Telford based voluntary homelessness organisations and the Local Authority to understand the numbers of people sleeping rough in our area, and how joint efforts to reduce rough sleeping are having an effect.

As a collaborative team, staff will be visiting a host of known locations across the town, engaging with people sleeping rough, perhaps already known to services, as well as those who we are yet to establish a connection with.

To ensure contact with as many individuals as possible is achieved, we are asking people within our local communities to pass on any information about people sleeping rough in their area. If you have witnessed someone sleeping rough close to your home or seen someone bedded down / camping in your local vicinity, we would ask you to get in touch with us and share as much information as you can. We will use the information you share to search and establish contact with that individual, adding them to the count and offering support and assistance where possible.

Please help us to reach and help others.

🏠 Today is World Homeless Day — a time to raise awareness and take action for those experiencing homelessness.

Every day, Maninplace supports people in Telford who are without a safe and secure place to call home. Behind every story of homelessness is a person — someone’s friend, parent, or neighbour — who deserves dignity, understanding, and a chance to rebuild their life.

Together, we can create a community where no one is left behind. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply challenging the stigma around homelessness, every act of kindness counts.

💛 Let’s stand together for change — because everyone deserves a place to belong.

We are always delighted to see our customers reaching for their personal goals and aspirations, bringing about positive change within their lives. Here is what Lee had to tell us about his journey so far.

"I have been with Maninplace for about 12-14 months. Since being here, I have slowly but surely been finding my feet. Everything has been brilliant and there has been lots of support when needed. Staff have helped refer me to "Build a bench". This has not only given me confidence, but I have been able to learn a new skill and interact with others. They also helped me undertake and complete my level 1 and 2 computer course. The service has been brilliant"

Homelessness is a challenging issue, often leading to significant emotional and mental health struggles. Activities are organised to support customers, including the creation and display of artwork.

Engaging in artistic activities can be incredibly therapeutic; it helps reduce anxiety and fosters a sense of community and belonging. The presence of artwork not only brightens the environment, but also serves as a powerful tool for improving mental health, offering customers a creative outlet to express themselves and find solace amidst their difficulties.

We would welcome donations of arts and crafts products that can be used by our customers to engage in artistic activities. Items such as: small canvases, acrylic paints, small paint brushes, colouring books, paint by numbers books, colouring pencils.

Some of our customers are also taking part in small gardening projects, another way of fostering positive communities. Donations of flower or vegetable seeds, and small bags of compost are welcomed.

If you would like to donate, email: [email protected] for further details of drop off location and items you wish to give.

Thank you.
