Can you help us share the books everyone wants to read this month? 📚

There’s high demand for our 10 most wanted titles, and many eager customers are waiting to borrow them. We’ve purchased as many copies as our budget allows, but if you’re able to help, we’d be truly grateful.

If you have a pristine copy, you’ve finished reading - whether it’s one you bought yourself or received as a gift - you can donate it at any library in Devon or Torbay. We’ll add it to our collection to help reduce the waiting list.

UPDATE ON TEGINMOUTH LIBRARY:

Thank you for your continued patience. We know the library is a much-loved part of the local community, and we want to reassure residents that we are working hard to make the building safe, fully operational, and reopened as soon as possible. However, we are unfortunately still at a stage where we don’t know when this will happen.

Fortunately, the fire was confined to the roof area and the interior of the building has not suffered any damage. As a precaution, the electricity and gas supplies have been disconnected while detailed assessments of the roof are carried out. Surveys have confirmed that the solar panels will need to be replaced and that significant repairs to the roof structure will also be required.

Progress on these works has unfortunately been affected by the presence of nesting seagulls on the roof. As the birds are a protected species, we have sought advice from Natural England to understand what work can safely and legally take place during the nesting period. While we are disappointed that this may delay the reopening of the library, we are committed to taking the appropriate steps to protect local wildlife while repairs are completed.

In the meantime, while Teignmouth library remains closed, customers can continue to access library services on our website. Any book reservations will be sent to Dawlish while Teignmouth is closed. You can also access e-books, audiobooks and magazines and newspapers with your library card via BorrowBox. We will continue to provide updates as work progresses and would like to thank the community for its patience and support.

UPDATE ON TEIGNMOUTH LIBRARY:

Hi everyone, we've been very busy behind the scenes with insurers, fire officers and builders to assess the damage and plan what work needs to take place. We are still waiting to hear back from various people and will update once we know more.

In the meantime, return dates for Teignmouth Library book loans have been extended while the library is closed and will not be subject to late fees whilst closed. Any book reservations for Teignmouth Library will be sent to Dawlish Library. You can also use any of our libraries in Devon or Torbay.

UPDATE ON TEIGNMOUTH LIBRARY:

We would like to thank everyone for their support and patience following Sunday's fire. We are doing everything we can to reopen the library but need to ensure that everything is safe before we do so. We are waiting to hear back on this and any work that needs to be done and so can't yet confirm a date for reopening. We will post an update as soon as we know more.
