A farewell message from the Chair of SWT, Cllr Hazel Prior-Sankey.πŸ‘‹

31/03/2023

As of tomorrow, the shiny new comes into being.

That means things are changing, and not changing...

We'll say a fond farewell to 'SWP', but you'll see very little change (if any) beyond that.
The new council will be responsible for all your waste services.

But, we'll still have the same contractors making collections and running our recycling sites. The SWP team behind the scenes will become part of the new council.

Our dedicated Facebook and Twitter channels will continue for all things waste, though our web content will be shifting over to the Somerset Council site. For more info visit www.somersetwaste.gov.uk/newcouncil

North Taunton Woolaway Project site update!

This week at Dorchester Road, our main contractor Equans have continued to progress the 'flats over garages' masonry works, however this has been hampered by the poor weather we've had. In the background the second fix internal works continue in the apartment block.

This will be the last update we give as Somerset West and Taunton Council, as from 01/04/2023 we will hereby be updating you as Somerset Council.

An early heads-up on the coronation of King Charles III and what it means for your waste services.

The coronation on Saturday 6 May brings an extra Bank Holiday Monday, meaning two consecutive long Bank Holiday weekends.

In a change from the norm, crews will collect on the first Bank Holiday, Monday 1 May, and collections will be in their usual scheduled days all that week.

But there will be no collections on the extra Bank Holiday, Monday 8 May, and collections will be one day later for the rest of that week, including collections that would usually take place on Friday 12 May taking place on Saturday 13 May.

Recycling sites will open weekends (9am to 4pm) and, where it’s part of their normal opening pattern, on both Bank Holiday Mondays (1 May and 8 May), from 9am to 6pm.

North Taunton Woolaway Project Update
WHATS GOING ON INSIDE THE PLOTS......YOU ASKED WE LISTENED!

With a lot of the external construction work completed or well on the way its time to take another look at what is going on inside some of the Phase A plots at NTWP.

In the picture you can see that many plots are at the second fix stage, where bathrooms, kitchens, decoration works and much more continues.

Give us a thumbs up πŸ‘ if you like this and want to see more

Somerset West and Taunton

Somerset West and Taunton Council is a district council. It came into being on 1 April 2019, bringing together the former Taunton Deane Borough and West Somerset Councils.

The two councils worked in partnership from 2013, sharing a single team of staff and a Chief Executive. A business case was developed and proposals made to the Government for the councils to create a single new council. This was approved by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government in May 2018.

There are 59 councillors, following elections in May 2019, serving the same geographical area as the two former councils.
