πŸš—πŸ‘€ Take a Second Look – It Could Save a Life 🏍️
Junctions and busy traffic are some of the highest-risk moments on our roads β€” and a little extra awareness from everyone can make a big difference.
For drivers:
Before pulling out or turning, take an extra moment to look again for motorcyclists. Bikes can be smaller, harder to spot, and closer than they appear β€” especially in busy or fast-moving traffic.
For riders:
Thank you for helping keep our roads moving β€” but please take extra care when filtering or approaching junctions. Stay visible, anticipate that others may not have seen you, and be ready for sudden changes.
βœ… Small actions, big impact:

Slow down slightly at junctions
Double-check mirrors and blind spots
Make eye contact where possible
Expect the unexpected

By looking out for each other, we can all help keep Somerset’s roads safer for everyone.

πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ ROAD SAFETY: LOOK OUT FOR CYCLISTS πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

Everyone has a role to play in keeping our roads safe.

The Highway Code's hierarchy of road users recognises that those who can cause the greatest harm have the greatest responsibility to reduce the danger they pose to others. This means drivers should take extra care to look out for cyclists and other vulnerable road users, giving them plenty of space and consideration.

Cyclists also have a responsibility to be conscious of their own safety by making themselves visible, following the rules of the road, and being aware of other traffic around them.

Whether you're driving, cycling, riding, or walking, we all share the highways. A little patience, courtesy, and understanding can make a big difference.

βœ… Drivers – Check mirrors, give cyclists space, and be prepared for their movements.
βœ… Cyclists – Be visible, stay alert, and ride responsibly.
βœ… Everyone – Be considerate and respectful of one another.

Together, we can make our roads safer for all road users.

A part-worn tyre can look like a bargain, but appearances can be deceptive. Unless it has been thoroughly inspected and marked as legal, you may be taking home someone else’s problem. Tyres are your only contact with the road, so safety should always come before saving a few pounds.

Learner drivers practise emergency stops, but do they know what tyres need to stop safely? Pressure and tread depth directly affect braking distance. Building tyre safety knowledge early creates safer habits for life. Have you shown your learner how to check their tyres yet?

New safety measures on the Frome bypass include resurfacing, new speed limits and cross hatching. Works start from next week πŸ‘‡

🚧 Improving safety on the Frome bypass (A361)

We’re taking action to reduce the chance of serious and fatal collisions on the Frome bypass, with new safety measures being introduced later this month.

Work will begin during the week beginning 11 May and will include:
β€’ Junction resurfacing works, to improve the quality of the road surface
β€’ A new 50mph speed limit on the A361 and 40mph on the A362 approach
β€’ Central hatching along the bypass

These works build on joint work with Avon and Somerset Police which saw AI safety cameras introduced last autumn to help detect unsafe driving.

Remember to check your tyres regularly, if they fail then you are going nowhere.

Remember to check your tyres regularly, if they fail then you are going nowhere.

A summer evening out with friends, a wedding, or a BBQ can quickly turn into hours stranded at the roadside if you don’t check your tyres. Avoid the stress β€” a quick tyre check keeps the good times rolling.
