We had a lot of fun today at our Pre-School Storytime and Craft session. We read a story that came all the way from Australia; a picture book that children there really enjoy so we thought we might enjoy it too. It is called Wombat Stew by Marcia K. Vaughan. It tells the story of a very clever Dingo, who catches a fat wombat and decides to make a tasty wombat stew for lunch. As the Dingo happily prepares the ingredients, he sings a little rhyme, “Wombat stew, Wombat stew, Crunchy, munchy, for my lunchy, Wombat stew!” We all practised saying the words a few times and joined in with the rhyme during the story. The other animals in the bush, Platypus, Emu, Echidna and Koala were quick to suggest other ingredients to make the stew taste that extra bit special including, big blobs of mud, feathers and flies! As we read the story, we enjoyed adding all the ingredients to the cooking pot and giving it a big stir! Will poor Wombat end up in the stew or will his friends have a final surprise in store for the greedy dingo? After the story it was time for our Craft activity and today, we made our own billycan of stew collage using our colouring, cutting and sticking skills.
Our next Storytime and Craft is on Wednesday 17th June at 11am. If you would like to join us for another story and craft activity then please e mail us at [email protected] to book your place.
