Fast and Functional 😎

Fifteen new Citroën Berlingo vehicles are being introduced across the organisation to support our Neighbourhood and Patrol teams.
Less nitrous. More neighbourhood policing.

While they may not look like a traditional police vehicle, these cars have been specially selected and equipped to help officers respond safely and effectively to incidents on some of our busiest and fastest roads.

Proof that performance isn't always about horsepower (sorry Mounted Section😉)

Today's protest in Taunton has now concluded and the policing operation has been stood down.

Officers were present to ensure the protest and counter protest could take place safely while minimising disruption to the community.

We'd like to thank everyone for their support and understanding.

Neighbourhood officers will remain in the town for the rest of the day and will be happy to speak to anyone who has any questions or concerns.

Mounted officers are supporting today's policing operation, playing an important role in both public engagement and crowd management.

Their height and visibility can provide reassurance to those attending, while also helping officers identify potential issues and support the safe management of large crowds.

Mounted officers are highly adaptable and can move quickly through areas that may be difficult for vehicles to access, making them a valuable resource during protests and other large-scale events.

While their primary role is often focused on engagement and crowd management, mounted officers also provide an effective crowd control capability in exceptional circumstances when required. Their ability to switch between engagement and operational support makes them an important part of the wider policing response, helping to keep people safe and events running smoothly.

The Drone Unit is supporting today's policing operation by providing commanders with a real-time aerial view of the protest. By offering a wider perspective than is possible from the ground, drones help commanders understand how the event is developing, monitor crowd movement and identify any emerging issues.

Throughout today's protest, this aerial overview will support decision-making, helping commanders assess risks, monitor the impact of policing tactics and ensure resources are deployed effectively where they are needed most.

Drone footage can also assist intelligence gathering and provide visual evidence to support investigations. Where offences are identified, recorded footage may be used to support enquiries and help bring offenders to justice.

As part of the wider policing operation, the Drone Unit helps improve situational awareness and contributes to the safe and effective management of today's protest.

Bronze Commanders are responsible for managing the policing operation on the ground during today's protest.

For today's event, there may be several Bronze Commanders, each overseeing a specific area of the operation. They work together to deliver the tactical plan, leading teams of Public Order Officers and directing resources where they are needed most.

As the protest progresses, Bronze Commanders make operational decisions, coordinate officers and ensure the event is policed safely, effectively and proportionately.

Their role is key to turning the wider policing plan into action on the ground.

There will be a large police presence in Taunton town centre tomorrow with a protest planned to take place from midday.

Officers will be there to enable protest to take place peacefully while also ensuring those taking part and the wider public are kept safe.

As part of the police operation, a dispersal zone under section 34 of the Antisocial Behaviour and Policing Act 2014 will be in place from 8am until 8pm.

Dispersal zones are regularly used by police across the country and give officers power to move on people who cause – or are likely to cause – harassment, alarm, or distress to others.

The protest is due to take place in Taunton town centre from midday on Saturday 29 August.

We are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at a domestic property in Taunton.

A house in Broadlands Way, Taunton, was broken into at around 12.45pm on Saturday 15 August.

Nothing was stolen from the property, and the offenders left the scene after an intruder alarm sounded when they were attempting to gain entry.

The offenders have been described as four males wearing face masks who left the scene in a grey vehicle. No more details have yet been established over their descriptions.

Forensic and house-to-house enquiries have been carried out and we’re now appealing to any witnesses, those with information, or relevant CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage which could assist our enquiries, to contact us.

We will have an increased visibility in the area and residents are urged to raise concerns with patrolling officers.

We are appealing for witnesses following a fire in North Fitzwarren this afternoon (Friday 21 August).

A fire was reported to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service at about 2pm at Pen Elm Hill.

Emergency services remain at the scene and there have been no reported injuries.

At this early stage, pending further enquiries, we are treating this incident as suspicious.

We would ask anyone with information around the cause of the fire to please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 5226236689.

The incident happened at Pen Elm Hill on Friday 21 August and is currently being treated as suspicious.
