Dogdyke Steam Pumping Station

The first evening opening of the Dogdyke steam and diesel drainage engines this year will be on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, from 5.00pm to 8.00pm.

Come and have a pleasant evening by the River Witham, to see the engines at work and enjoy our refreshments and chat with friends. It is an opportunity to enjoy this quiet rural site which has its own magic in the evening light.

A small display of classic tractors that will back memories to some of our farming visitors are in the grounds.

Admission to the site is free, but we do welcome donations which are used to maintain these engines. This will be a great evening out for all the family.

OUR LATEST PRESS RELEASE: Sunday 7 June 2026, 12.30 to 4.30pm at the Dogdyke Steam Pumping Station, Tattershall Bridge. Both the unique Bradley & Craven 1856 steam engine and the Lincoln built Ruston &Hornsby, single cylinder oil engine will be working and there will be an additional exhibition of models. Some will bring reminders of their childhood with a collection of Hornby O gauge railway vehicles and engines. A fascinating display of working model fair ground rides including a Wall of Death motorbike ride. The craftsman’s skill is evident in a collection of horse drawn farm vehicles shown along with a scale model of the craftsman’s home. Other displays feature working model oil engines and steam engines to providing additional enjoyment to visitors.

There is a museum room in the cottage looking at aspects of land drainage over time and the people and their families involved in carrying out that work.

The site is entirely operated by volunteers and we are always interested in attracting more people who may be willing to help keep the site open.

SUNDAY, 3rd MAY, between 12.30pm and 4.30pm, the historic Dogdyke Pumping Station, by Tattershall Bridge, will open its doors again to the public. On this first open day of the year visitors will see the unique Bradley & Craven beam engine of 1856 in steam and the 1940, Lincoln built, Ruston & Hornsby oil engine at work.

In the attractive grounds there will be a display of classic cars, domestic and agricultural bygones, old farm machines and a display of model agricultural wagons. There are Bric-a-Brac, Tombola and plant stalls alongside the ever popular children’s games.

Refreshments are available in the Pump Attendant’s cottage where there is a museum featuring the history of land drainage. The site has a car park, accessible toilets and is wheelchair friendly. We also welcome dogs on leads.

Admission is free but donations are welcome to support the preservation of the site.

On Sunday, 3rd May, we shall be holding our first open day starting at 12.30pm and finishing by 4.30pm. Both engines will be at work and in addition there will be classic cars, vintage farm machinery and bygones. This day provides an opportunity to meet up with old friends and enjoy our refreshments including a range of homemade cakes. There will be the Bric-a-Brac stall and Tombola as well as the Plant and Produce stalls and children’s games.

We regret to pass on the sad news of long time supporter, volunteer and founding member of Dogdyke Pumping Station, Catherine Wilson's demise. A further tribute will be published at a later date. Our sympathies go out to her family.

Saturday, 14 March 2026 at 2.00 pm: We will hold our AGM. This will take place at Willow Farm, Coningsby Road, Dogdyke LN4 4UY (courtesy of Mr and Mrs Casey). The short business meeting will be followed by refreshments and a talk by Ken Redmore on Rural Brickworks, including the brickworks that once operated next to our pumping station.

Sunday, 3 May 2026 from 12.30pm-4.30pm: the first OPEN DAY with both engines at work and a range of exhibits from classic cars, tractors, bygones and model engines.

A 1940s DAY will be held at Dogdyke on Sunday, 5th October from 12.30pm to 4.30pm. Come and enjoy a 1940s day at the Pumping Station with a display of British and American military vehicles and equipment. There will be period re-enactors, military displays, classic cars of the period and vintage swing dancing to music of the era, visitors can even take part and learn to jive the Lindy Hop!

Refreshments are available in the pump attendant’s cottage where there is a small museum. Bric-a-brac, tombola and plant stalls are found in the attractive grounds.

This is our LAST OPEN DAY for 2025, we will REOPEN on Sunday, 3rd May, 2026.

On Saturday, 20th September from 12.30pm to 4.30pm the Station will be open as part of National Heritage Open Days.

Come and see the Bradley & Craven 1856 steam engine, oil engines, classic cars, tractors, working models and agricultural bygones, as well as a plant stall, tombola, bric-a-brac stall, refreshments and home made cakes.

This unique 1856 steam pumping engine, that once kept the land around Tattershall dry, will be at work powering the 24 foot diameter wooden scoop wheel. Also, the Lincoln built 40hp Ruston & Hornsby single cylinder oil engine and Gwynnes centrifugal pump, which replaced the steam engine in 1940, will be at work.

Admission to the site is free. Donations are welcome to help maintain the engines and site.
