The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Gayle Cook, was absolutely delighted to attend the grand opening of LUX, the brand-new Turkish restaurant here in Old Town Swindon.
From the moment she stepped inside, she was struck by how beautifully the restaurant has been decorated, it truly creates such a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The food was absolutely fabulous, and the service was top notch from start to finish. She even had the pleasure of trying Turkish tea for the first time, a lovely new experience!

She cannot praise the owners and staff enough, they were incredibly welcoming and kind, making the evening even more special. I am already looking forward to my visit! If you are looking for a wonderful new dining spot, she highly recommends stopping by LUX.

I want to extend a massive thank you to my Deputy Mayor, Cllr Gayle Cook and her Consort Adrian, for representing our town at three fantastic community engagements yesterday. It is so important that we show our support for the events that bring us all together, and she certainly had a full and productive day!

Her first stop was at the Civic Offices for Swindon Borough Council The Big Lunch. It was wonderful to see so many volunteers and councillors coming together for such a positive community initiative. I truly hope this event continues to grow and flourish every single year.

Next, she attended the wonderful Polish Day Swindon. The hospitality was incredibly welcoming, and it was a very poignant moment to hear both the national anthems played and to observe a minute’s silence in memory of Henry Nowak. My Deputy was honoured to give a speech at such a well-attended event, the food looked absolutely delicious, and she was only sorry she couldn't stay longer, she is already planning to return next year as Mayor!

Finally, she headed up to the Old Town Festival, Swindon. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout once again, and she was pleased to have the opportunity to share a few words. With dry weather, a great atmosphere, and the delicious smells of the food stalls, it was the perfect way to wrap up a day celebrating the very best of Swindon.

Thank you, Deputy, for your time, your dedication, and for being such a wonderful presence within our communities!

It was truly an honour to meet so many wonderful volunteers at the Live Well event held at Baristocats this week. It is heartening to see so many people who quietly go about doing good for others, without the need for fanfare or social media attention.

These individuals are the true backbone of our community. Whether they are visiting and befriending the lonely and vulnerable, looking after pets while owners are in hospital, or providing warm social settings, like those wonderful knitting and crochet groups that craft items for others in need, their impact is profound. From baking cakes to helping with gardening and so much more, these volunteers dedicate their time to support those less fortunate.

Volunteers, you are heroes! Thank you for choosing to do such great work rather than just talking about it. As we mark the end of Volunteer Week, I want to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to every single one of you for your kindness, your energy, and your dedication to making Swindon a better place. You make our town proud!

What an inspiring morning we had on Wednesday in the Council Chamber! I had the immense pleasure of hosting The Blue Kite Academy Trust’s 2nd Annual Pupil Parliament meeting, and the energy and passion in the room was absolutely incredible. We welcomed representatives from 26 schools, and I was truly impressed by their dedication to their roles.

These young councillors and school champions spoke with such pride about their accomplishments throughout the year. They mimicked an "official" council meeting with remarkable decorum, showcasing a level of maturity and focus that was wonderful to witness. It was fantastic to have Gary Evans, CEO of the Blue Kite Academy Trust, present to see these impressive achievements firsthand.

A major highlight of the morning was celebrating their charitable efforts. This past school year, the schools raised funds for Former Mayor, Fay Howards charity, Wiltshire Treehouse. Kath from Wiltshire Treehouse joined us to express a massive thank you to all the pupils for their incredible generosity and hard work, the amounts raised were truly impressive!

After a productive meeting, the children left with smiles on their faces and snacks to keep them going. We also made time for a special tour of the Mayor’s Parlour, where they had the chance to explore a bit of Swindon's rich history. Days like these truly highlight the bright future ahead for our town, and it is a privilege to support such engaged and dedicated young people. Well done to all the pupils and the Blue Kite Academy Trust for a fantastic event!

It was a real privilege to be invited to open the new supported living pods for the Choice Care Group over the weekend. It is always heartening to see innovative housing solutions being developed for people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities, providing them with the stable, supportive, and dignified accommodation they deserve.

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, I emphasised just how vital this work is. Too many people across our community still struggle to access suitable housing and the tailored support they need to thrive. These new living pods are a fantastic, positive step forward in addressing that need and ensuring that individuals have the right foundation to live fulfilling, independent lives.

A huge thank you to the Choice Care Group team for their incredible dedication and for inviting me to be part of such a special day. It was a pleasure to meet everyone and see these new facilities first-hand. I wish all the future occupants every success and happiness as they settle into their new homes!

I had the absolute pleasure of attending the very first Filipino Food Fair in Swindon this weekend! I was incredibly touched by the warm welcome I received from the entire community, and a special thank you goes to their President, Aries, for hosting such a fantastic event.

The atmosphere was electric and the community’s passion for sharing their heritage was clear to see. The event was designed to introduce Swindon residents to the wonderful flavours and vibrant culture of the Philippines, and it was a massive success. In fact, the demand for their delicious delicacies was so strong that they were selling out incredibly quickly!

It was a joy to see so many people coming together to celebrate and learn more about our diverse town. Events like these remind us all of the rich cultural tapestry that makes Swindon such a great place to live. If you missed out this time, keep an eye out for future events, you definitely won't want to miss the food!

I am delighted to share that I completed my very first engagement as the Mayor of Swindon yesterday morning, and it was truly special. I had the pleasure of visiting the Jumbulance, a remarkable initiative that provides people with severe mobility issues the opportunity to enjoy holidays and outings with their families.

For many, experiences like these would simply not be possible without the incredible design and care that the Jumbulance team provides. It is more than just a vehicle; it is a gateway to adventure, accessibility, and quality time for those who face significant physical challenges. Seeing firsthand how they enable families to create precious memories together was the perfect start to my mayoral year.

The Jumbulance team is a truly great group of people, and their dedication to ensuring that mobility issues do not stand in the way of life-enriching experiences is inspiring. Thank you to everyone involved for such a warm welcome and for the vital work you do to bring joy and freedom to so many. It was a privilege to witness your mission in action!

Hello Swindon 👋
I am incredibly honoured and humbled to have been elected as the Mayor of Swindon today. I am truly looking forward to an incredible year ahead, representing our fantastic town and meeting as many of you as possible.

A massive thank you to everyone who came to Mayor Making today, it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to feel such strong support from across our community.
As I step into this role, I am proud to announce the two charities I will be supporting and fundraising for during my term: Prospect Hospice, which provides such vital, compassionate care to those facing life-limiting illnesses and their families here in Swindon, and Swindon Carers Together (Swindon Young Carers), a group doing essential work to support, champion, and offer respite to the incredible young people who provide care for their loved ones every single day.

I am deeply committed to championing the causes that matter to you. Now, with the formalities complete, let's get to business! There is so much to do, and I cannot wait to get started working for the people of Swindon.
