What a great morning at The Haven. 🎨☕

Everyone got creative with arts and crafts, making bookmarks and coasters — always lovely to see the different designs coming together. 📖🖼️

We also welcomed Silver Lining Solicitors, who joined us for a really informative talk on Wills and Lasting Power of Attorney (covering both Health & Welfare, and Property & Financial Affairs). ⚖️📋

A few key takeaways from the session:

✅ It's important to review your Will regularly, especially as the law around care funding and home ownership has changed
✅ Setting up Power of Attorney covers both health decisions and financial matters — it's worth having both in place
✅ Making sure your wishes are properly recorded means they'll be respected when it matters most

Getting your affairs in order isn't always the most exciting topic, but sessions like this make it so much easier to understand — thank you to Silver Lining Solicitors for such a clear and helpful talk. 🙏

🌟 Help Shape the Future of Accessible Outdoor Spaces in Haydon Wick 🌟

Do you, a family member, friend or someone you support have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

Haydon Wick Parish Council is exploring whether there is a need for a dedicated outdoor play and activity space designed primarily for teenagers and adults with SEND, and we want to hear from YOU.

💬 What works well in existing parks?
💬 What barriers make outdoor spaces difficult to access or enjoy?
💬 What facilities, equipment or features would help create a space that is welcoming, inclusive and accessible?

At this stage, no decisions have been made about a site, design or funding. We're simply gathering views to understand local needs and ensure any future plans are shaped by those who matter most.

We're delighted to welcome you back to Craft & Connect, starting Thursday 17th September at 6:30pm.

As the seasons change, so will our creative projects. This series of sessions will take you on a crafting journey through autumn and beyond, with opportunities to create beautiful seasonal crafts, Remembrance poppies, and thoughtful Christmas parcel gifts for community initiatives.

Over the coming weeks, you'll enjoy a variety of creative activities, making keepsakes to take home while also contributing handmade items that support local parish projects and community activities.

Whether you're an experienced crafter or simply looking to try something new, our sessions offer a relaxed, friendly space to get creative, meet new people, and connect with your community.

🚶‍♀️🚲🛴 Pedestrians First. Always!

As children return to school this September, our footpaths and shared-use routes will become even busier with families, students and residents travelling around Haydon Wick.

We're seeing more cyclists, scooters, mobility scooters and other wheeled users on our pathways than ever before. While active travel is encouraged, it's important to remember that some pedestrians, particularly older residents and those with visible or unseen disabilities, can find fast-moving vehicles passing close by frightening or intimidating.

If you're riding, please:

✅ Slow down around pedestrians
✅ Give plenty of space when passing
✅ Use a bell or politely announce your approach
✅ Follow signs on shared-use paths
✅ Be extra vigilant around schools and at drop-off and pick-up times
✅ Remember that pedestrians are the most vulnerable path users

What feels like a safe speed to you can feel very different to a young child, an older resident, or someone with mobility, sight or hearing difficulties.

A little patience and consideration goes a long way.

Let's work together to keep Haydon Wick welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for everyone. 💙

Building a Stronger, More Resilient Community Together 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who attended today's first Community Emergency Plan volunteer meeting!

It was fantastic to bring together our volunteers and councillors for an introduction to the project, an opportunity to get to know one another, and to learn more about the role of an Emergency Hub during times of need. The discussion sparked plenty of questions and great conversations, highlighting the enthusiasm and commitment of those involved.

Volunteers shared their skills, experience and areas of interest, helping us identify where individuals can best support the community. We're delighted that everyone has now selected their roles and provided information to help us build our volunteer database in readiness for the next stage of the project.
Our next meeting will take place in January, where we'll put the plan into action through a series of emergency scenario exercises, helping the team prepare for a range of situations.

Thank you once again to everyone who gave their time today. The passion, knowledge and willingness to help on display promises to make this a highly effective and successful team dedicated to supporting our community when it matters most.
