Neil Guild and Sharon Foster have been nominated by our branch in the elections for the union’s Local Government Service Group Executive

Elections to the Local Government Service Group Executive have begun.

You will receive an email ballot paper and a postal ballot – use either to decide who will represent you

Our branch nominated Neil Guild and Sharon Foster. We have nominated them because they are both very experienced activists who have a track record of delivering for workers in local government across the region.

They have promised to fight for:

A fair pay rise for all council and school workers

An end to outsourcing - councils should deliver their own services

A National Care Service so all social care is properly funded and care workers get paid a salary they deserve

Better funding for schools

Workplaces free of racism, sexism, homophobia and disablism

International Women’s Day Statement
UNISON South West Women’s Committee

In a time of fear, it is our collective that makes us strong.

In the face of hate and division, we rise in UNISON.

This International Women’s Day, we stand together as women, as workers, as trade unionists, united in our shared aim to amplify women’s voices across our workplaces, our communities and our union.

We know that equality is not a given, it is fought for every day. We have heard it in motions at our Women’s Conference: the need to end gender-based violence and harassment, to close the pay gap, to secure dignity at work, and to protect public services that women rely on most. We carry these priorities forward, united in purpose and bold in action.

We see you.

The low-paid women who keep our services running.

The migrant workers whose labour sustains our local communities.

The carers, the cleaners, the support workers.

Valued but undervalued.

We see the extra labour women carry, the barriers faced by Black, disabled and LGBT+ women, and the fight yet to be won for true equality.

We stand with you.

Because when women are free from discrimination, free from fear, free to earn a fair wage and free to shape our futures, we all benefit.

Together we challenge inequality.

Together we fight for justice at work and in society.

Together we rise.

In solidarity, today and every day.
