If you're worried about losing your home or are currently homeless, support is available in Swindon.

A visit today by Councillor Matty Courtliff, Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, highlighted the range of support available across the Borough, from early help to prevent homelessness through to emergency assistance and longer-term accommodation.

Latest government figures show homelessness is prevented or relieved in 58 per cent of cases in Swindon, compared with a national average of 49 per cent. On average, 56 households each month are helped to stay in their homes, while a further 63 households are supported to secure alternative accommodation.

If you need help, contact the Homelessness Prevention Team on 01793 445500 or visit Beckhampton Street, SN1 2JH. You do not need an appointment.

If you're concerned about someone sleeping rough, you can alert local outreach services through StreetLink, helping connect them with the support they need.

🚧Thousands of potholes already filled in 2026 🚧

Work to improve Swindon’s road network this year is already higher than in 2025. Between January and June this year, our team has:
• filled 7,237 potholes
• carried out larger patch repairs at 37 areas
• repainted road markings at 175 locations
• cleaned 7,713 gullies

This reactive work has sat alongside our proactive resurfacing programme which has seen more than 20 roads receive improvements between the start of July and end of September, including Bath Road and Croft Road.

Limited resources means that in 2026/27, we will spend almost £6m on highways and pathways.

This includes spending £2.9m on planned maintenance and surface dressing for major and minor roads, as well as funding for routine road maintenance, such as £200k on reactive pothole repairs. This maintenance also includes patching repairs, road markings and traffic light maintenance.

You can find out more about how we repair Swindon’s roads, as well as how you can report any issues, using the link in the comments below.

National recognition for a team supporting families across Swindon 🌟

Our Health Visiting Team has played a key role in helping develop new digital resources for parents and carers on BBC CBeebies Parenting and Tiny Happy People.

Drawing on their expertise in supporting families during the early years of a child's life, the team helped shape content covering parent wellbeing and advice for families with newborn babies.

It comes as the team has also been shortlisted for the national Health Visitor Team of the Year award at the Institute of Health Visiting Practice Awards 2026.

Supporting young dads in Swindon 💙

BBC Wiltshire are today shining a spotlight on the pioneering Council-run Dads at Their Best programme and the difference it is making for young fathers and their families.

Since launching in 2021, the programme has supported young dads like Luke. Luke's son was born prematurely, and the programme helped him to build confidence as a young parent.

The programme is led by Ruth King, our Fathers Worker in Public Health Nursing. Ruth has worked alongside dozens of young fathers, providing practical support, encouragement and someone to turn to during a life-changing period.

Her commitment was recently recognised on the national stage when she received an Outstanding Individual Contribution Award at the Local Government Chronicle Awards, recognising the impact she has made on young fathers and families across Swindon.

🎟️ What can make any Sunday afternoon better? A ticket to ride.

Thanks to the volunteers from the North Wilts Model Engineering Society, you can enjoy a trip on the Miniature Railway when you visit Coate Water on a Sunday.

The team gives up its time to maintain the locomotives, look after the track and keep this much-loved attraction running smoothly, helping create special memories for families and railway enthusiasts alike.

And there's more to look forward to, with the railway's popular Ghost Train set to return next month, bringing some spooky seasonal fun to Coate Water. 👻🚂

A huge thank you to all the volunteers whose hard work helps keep this Swindon favourite on track.

Swindon is strengthening its position as one of the UK's leading centres for defence technology and innovation.

A year after being highlighted in the Government's Defence Industrial Strategy, our borough is attracting major investment in autonomous systems, advanced engineering and aerospace manufacturing.

Recent investments include:

✅ The MOD's new Uncrewed Testing Centre at Panattoni Park
✅ TEKEVER's advanced drone hub at the Spectrum Building
✅ A number of other autonomous systems businesses bringing jobs and investment to Swindon

Together, these projects are expected to create more than 1,000 highly-skilled jobs over the coming years, helping local people access exciting careers in a fast-growing sector.

From our engineering heritage to the technologies of the future, Swindon continues to be a place where innovation thrives.

A big thank you to our volunteer rangers 🌳

Our brilliant rangers have been hard at work at Stanton Country Park, helping to remove lower branches on trees and edging pathways to keep routes accessible and enjoyable for visitors.

The work is just one example of how our volunteer rangers help care for Swindon's country parks and green spaces throughout the year, supporting wildlife, improving access and helping keep our parks looking their best.

If you enjoy being outdoors, want to learn new skills and would like to help look after some of Swindon's most-loved natural spaces, why not consider becoming a volunteer ranger?
