Got old electricals or used batteries at home? Here’s how to recycle them safely ♻️

🔌 The Household Waste Recycling Centre accepts all household electricals, such as electric toothbrushes and razors. You’ll need to book a slot on our website before visiting.

🔋 Never put batteries in your wheelie bin or blue bag, as spark fires. Store them safely and recycle them at designated drop‑off points, such as supermarkets.

For more information on how to recycle different items, search ‘Waste Wizard’ on our website.

We are urgently appealing for information and potential witnesses, following a road traffic collision in the early hours in Swindon today (09/06) in which a female pedestrian was seriously injured.

The driver of a car involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene.

At about 2.30am, officers were called to Rodbourne Road in Swindon, near the Designer Outlet Village, alongside colleagues from partner emergency services.

The woman was treated at the scene and has since been taken to hospital to be treated for life threatening injuries.

We are now appealing to anyone who may have been in the area between 2am and 2.30am this morning and may have witnessed the collision, or who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward as this could assist with our investigation.

A scene remains in place and drivers should expect delays in the area.

If you can help, please call 101 quoting log 20 of today’s date (09/06).

You can also leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

How you can help look after Swindon’s wildlife 🌿🦋

Caring for Swindon’s wildlife and natural habitats is at the heart of the Swindon Forest Meadows partnership between Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Swindon Borough Council.

Since launching in 2020, the project has been creating, restoring and enhancing habitats across the borough – from reintroducing wildflowers to adopting more traditional meadow management techniques.

Local volunteers have played a vital role in protecting and preserving Swindon’s green spaces, with hundreds already getting involved.

More recently, a new Tree Warden Network has been set up, with volunteers helping to care for woodland areas by checking on the health of newly planted trees.

There are plenty of upcoming opportunities to get involved too in activities such as watering, weeding, grass cutting and creating raised beds at locations including:
• Westcott Tree Nursery
• Swindon Lagoons
• Rivermead Community Nature Reserve
• Clouts Wood
