This month marks the 2nd anniversary of Clydach Male Voice Choir.
From a group of just 16 men who nervously came together in the back room of a rugby club, we wanted to take a moment to look back at what we’ve achieved so far.
• We have grown from 16 members to 45.
• We have sung at a D-Day service and a Remembrance service, and held two Christmas carol concerts.
• We provided the pre-match entertainment and sang the anthems for Wales vs New Zealand at the Principality Stadium, which also marked the 120th anniversary of the first anthem ever sung at a rugby international — fittingly, also a Wales vs New Zealand game.
• We recorded a performance for Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol on S4C, which will be aired at Easter.
• In April, we travel to Carlow, Ireland to perform at the Pan Celtic Festival.
• In July, we will support Morriston Ladies Choir at the Tabernacle in Morriston for their annual concert.
• And later this year we will hold our very first annual concert as a choir.
We are incredibly proud of how much has been achieved in such a short time — especially when over 95% of our members had never sung in a choir before joining.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us, and to the many choirs who have sent messages of encouragement. At a time when some choirs are sadly dwindling, it’s wonderful to show that there is still a strong call for Welsh choral music, and we are proud to carry that torch for Wales and for Clydach.
But we are always looking for new members.
You really don’t have to be an amazing singer. Just come down, have a listen, and enjoy a pint with us. There is absolutely no pressure to join in whatsoever — just come and see what we’re about.
