What does courage look like?

Sometimes itโ€™s just walking out the front door.

This week had a bit of everything.

One of our young people made it into school for the first time. No shortcuts, no easy route... just getting there. That moment at the door said everything.

๐๐จ๐ฑ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐ž๐›๐ฎ๐ญ.
First session at a boxing clubโ€ฆ and came back with Boxer of the Day. Got stuck in, worked hard, loved it.

๐๐ž๐ญ๐›๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ง๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ.
One of our young people has been picked for their first tournament next week. Proper earned. The whole house is already behind them.

We welcomed a new young person... and within no time they were out on the trampoline showing off backflips like theyโ€™d been here for months.

This weekโ€™s been a mix of big moments and the kind of stuff that sticks with you.

One of our young people headed out to the Elan Valley for a Young Commissioners event and spoke about their experience of being in care. Standing up and saying โ€œthis is what itโ€™s been like for meโ€ takes real courage. Thatโ€™s what this is all about.

๐€ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ.
Two of our youngest had something huge this week meeting their mum for the first time and getting Easter bonnets from her. Proper emotional, proper special. In between all that, theyโ€™ve still found time for parties and a day out to Folly Farm.

๐‹๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ž๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž.
Local PCSOs came in and ran a session with the younger ones around staying safe in the community. Simple stuff, but important and it landed well.

๐‘๐ฎ๐ง๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฐ.
Half-termโ€™s been busy trips to Tenby, Heatherton, the lot. But the highlight? The kids hosting their own Easter party for others across the homes. Decorations up, music on, everyone involved. Their space, their way.

Weโ€™re not handing over bedtimes, snack cupboards, or takeaway decisions (as much as some would love that).

But giving young people a real voice in their day-to-day lives?
That part isnโ€™t a joke.

The best homes donโ€™t run for young people.
They run with them.

๐Ÿ’– Real Moments, Real Progress โ€“ This Week

What does a good week look like?

Sometimes itโ€™s a football away day.
Sometimes itโ€™s a bike ride that almost didnโ€™t happen.

This week had a bit of everything.

Away day.
One of our young people made the trip to Walsall to watch Newport.
Long journey. Big commitment. Loved every minute.

Easter creativity.
Bonnets made. Parade done.
Proud faces all round.

Back garden science.
One young person turned the garden into a mini lab and pulled off their own rocket experiment.
Didnโ€™t just watch itโ€ฆ made it.

Peer support.
A young person who usually struggles to get out managed a bike ride this week.
Encouraged the whole way by another young person.

Sometimes that support means more than anything we can say.

Small moments. Big meaning.

Red Nose Day has landed across our homes today, and the young people have fully got behind it.

Thereโ€™s been red noses, laughter, sweet treats, and plenty of fun along the way.

Days like this matter. Not because theyโ€™re huge, but because they give our young people the chance to join in, have a laugh, and be part of something lots of other children are enjoying too.

Sometimes itโ€™s the simple stuff that sticks.

A big well done to everyone who got involved and helped bring the fun today.

๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐–๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ฌ ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ.

Most of the people who hold our homes together are women.

Women who show up every day with patience, humour, and an incredible amount of care for our young people and for each other.

Theyโ€™re the ones doing the school runs, the late-night chats, the calming moments, and the celebrations when something finally clicks.

That kind of nurture helps rebuild trust, safety, and belief.

Today weโ€™re simply saying thank you to the women who make our homes feel like home.

World Book Day has landed across our homes today, and the costumes have been brilliant.

One of our young people turned up as Buzz Lightyear, fully committed to the mission. The pose, the confidenceโ€ฆ the whole thing.

Safe to say Buzz has been doing the rounds today, proudly showing the outfit to anyone who will look.

Days like this matter more than people realise. Dressing up, having a laugh, and being able to enjoy the moment with others is exactly the kind of childhood every young person deserves.

And judging by the confidence in that stanceโ€ฆ space might not be the only place Buzz plans to conquer today.

A big well done to all the young people (and staff!) getting involved and making the day fun.

What makes a house a home? This week, itโ€™s shared meals, creative wins, and cheering each other on.

Trophy triumphs. Huge congratulations to one of our young people who won a gymnastics trophy this week! It takes real focus and courage to compete, and we are so proud of their dedication.

Head chef. Independence is built step by step. One young person has taken the lead, prepping lunches for the younger children and even cooking a chicken curry for the whole house tonight. A brilliant way to build life skills!

Creative champion. Imagination took the spotlight as one of our children won first place in their school Eisteddfod for the best T-shirt design. We love seeing their talent and self-expression recognised.

Household adventures. Shared memories build connection. An entire household headed to Three Cliffs Bay this week, exploring the beach and finding starfish. Itโ€™s these simple, joyful days out that create a true sense of belonging.

๐‡๐จ๐ฐ ๐๐จ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐›๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐œ๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ฆ๐ž๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ? Sometimes it's the thrill of a first ever holiday, and sometimes it's sharing a special meal around the dining table. This half term has been full of both.

Getting away for half term is a classic childhood staple. Two of our children headed off to Butlins this week for a well-deserved holiday. Itโ€™s all about giving them those typical, joyful experiences... the chance to just be kids, make noise, and have pure, uninterrupted fun away from the everyday routine.

๐•-๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ ๐œ๐ž๐ฅ๐ž๐›๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ.
Half term has been non-stop! Between busy day trips out, the children took the time to decorate the house and sit down together for a special three-course Valentine's meal at home. Itโ€™s these shared moments of effort and connection that build a true sense of safety and belonging under one roof.

๐“๐ก๐ž ๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ ๐ž๐ฌ๐œ๐š๐ฉ๐ž.
There is nothing quite like the excitement of a "first." One of our young people experienced the magic of Legoland for the very first time and had an absolute blast. Watching them soak up that level of joy and adventure is exactly why our teams go the extra mile to plan these days out.

The impact of real care lasts long after a young person moves on. This week, the team at Old Road received a heartfelt compliment from a previous young person's social worker, praising the quality of care that was provided. Itโ€™s a beautiful reminder to our staff that their daily dedication truly leaves a lasting mark.
