Openreach - Temporary Road Closure - Beechenlea Lane, Swanley - 17th September 2026 for 1 day between 09.30hrs and 15.30hrs
The road will be closed from Swanley Village Road to the railway bridge.
The alternative route is via Beechenlea Lane, B2173 London Road, B258 High Street, B258 Swanley Lane, Highlands Hill, Swanley Village Road and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while access to telegraph poles in order to provide fibre overhead cabling works are undertaken by Openreach.

Local Government Reorganisation

You may have seen today’s news that the Government has paused or withdrawn plans for local government reorganisation in a number of areas across England, following new legal advice. The Government has also confirmed that local elections in May 2027 will proceed on existing council boundaries.

For Swanley, this is an important development.

It now means the Sevenoaks District Council elections will happen in May 2027 alongside our Swanley Town Council elections.

It also means the previously agreed four unitary future model is paused.

Swanley Town Council has been closely following the proposed changes to local government in Kent and has worked hard to ensure that Swanley’s interests, its communities and its valued local assets are properly represented throughout the process.

This included protecting five District assets by purchasing them from the authority to ensure they remain in local ownership for generations to come. We seek reassurances from the District that these transfers will be honoured.

At this stage, it is important to stress that today’s announcement does not mean that the proposed reorganisation in Kent has been cancelled. The Government’s announcement relates to a wider review of local government reorganisation, and we will need to await further information on what this means for Kent.

Our position remains clear: any changes to local government must be based on strong evidence, financial sustainability and, most importantly, what delivers the best outcomes for local residents.

We will continue to monitor developments closely and will keep residents updated as more information becomes available.

Swanley Delivers Spectacular Alternative After Firework Ban!

Swanley Park has successfully delivered a spectacular display for the annual 1812 night, following the governments ban on fireworks. With thousands of visitors enjoying an exciting Drone & Special Effects Show on Friday the 28th of August.

The ban was publicised only two weeks before the event date, as organisers, we were determined that the governments decision to prohibit fireworks would not mean cancelling one of the towns most anticipated events. With only limited time to find an alternative, the team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to explore every possible option that could provide visitors with another memorable evening, while complying fully with the new restrictions.

After extensive planning and coordination, Swanley Town Council created a stunning Drone & Special Effects Show, giving the audience a completely new way to experience the night!

Lily Smith, Event Organiser, said: ‘When the government announced the ban on fireworks, we were faced with a huge challenge. We knew how much our visitors look forward to this event, and we were determined not to let them down’

‘A huge amount of work went on behind the scenes in a very short period of time, and I am incredibly proud of the outcome. Most importantly, we hope everyone who attended had a fantastic evening!’

The event featured afternoon entertainment, food, and family activities before the drone & special effects show set of in sync with Eynsford Orchestra Band.

The Event Organiser would like to thank everyone who attended, the contractors, performers, traders, emergency services, staff, partners and the wider community for their support and patience during what was an exceptionally challenging period.
