Just before 20:30 this evening we were called by the coastguard, who while dealing with another incident, were alerted to smoke coming out of the caves at Tilly Whim at Durlston.

Along with some personnel from the Swanage Coastguard Team, we made entrance to the caves where we found an abounded camp fire which was still smouldering. This was extinguished using one water filled back pack.

As usual, good team work between both services meant a successful outcome and both teams returning to their stations after a couple of hours.

Two call outs so far for the station today.

At 11:20 this morning we were called to back up Wareham Fire Station, who had requested an extra pump for water, to a fire in the open near Corfe Castle. The fire was extinguished using hose reel jets.

As soon as we left this incident, and because Wareham were still there, we were alerted to go to alarms sounding at a block of residential flats in Wareham. This luckily turned out to be a false alarm and we returned to home station.

Another couple of shouts for the station today.

At 11:30 this morning we were mobilised to a kitchen fire in a hotel in Studland. We were backed up by pumps from Springbourne and Redhill. The fire was contained to a deep fat fryer and was extinguished using 2 BA, one C02 extinguisher and a hose reel jet. The rest of the building was checked for fire spread and nothing further was found.

We returned to station just after 13:00 and as soon as we walked through the front doors we were alerted to take our off road appliance and go to Wareham Fire Station for standby duties while they dealt with a field fire.

We are still actively recruiting for on-call firefighters and if you think this could be a job you’d enjoy doing, please come down any Tuesday evening between 18:00 and 21:00 for an informal chat and see what it’s all about.

Along with the rest of DWFRS stations we have had quite a busy weekend again.

Just after 03:00 on Saturday morning our off road appliance was mobilised to a large barn fire in East Lulworth. The fire spread to a derelict property next door and crews worked hard to stop it spreading into nearby large trees and fields. This will be an ongoing incident for several days.

During Saturday one of our firefighters, Andy Mutter, was asked to take a Land Rover to relief crews at the ongoing incident at the New Forest.

Just before 21:00 last evening our off road appliance was mobilised to a fire on Canford Heath. The fire was brought under control fairly quickly however the crew stayed on scene into the early hours damping down.

At 13:30 this afternoon our off road appliance was sent to a large field fire at Nomansland, New Forest.

Along with 5 other pumps, land rovers, the Unimog from Wareham and the water carrier from Poole, crews worked hard in very hot temperatures to extinguish the fire and damp down. We were relieved after several hours by fresh crews.

On the way home we managed to stop and catch a glimpse of the eclipse although we had missed the main part β˜€οΈ

It’s been a busy few days for the station with 12 calls attended since Thursday. These have included several fires in the open, assisting the ambulance service and a couple of false alarms.

Last evening at 21:30 our Land Rover was sent to assist at the major incident at the New Forest. It remained on scene all night and returned home at around 06:30 this morning.

On top of that there has been a small but ongoing incident locally which has resulted in several re-inspections over the past couple of days.

Swanage Station is actively recruiting and if being an on-call firefighter sounds something that may interest you, please pop down to the station one Tuesday evening between 18:00 and 21:00 for an informal chat and see what being an on-call firefighter is all about.

Three call outs for the station today.

At 13:20 one pump was sent to fire alarms that were sounding in a block flats in the town centre. Luckily this turned out to be a false alarm.

Just before 15:30 our Land Rover was sent to a large field fire at Coombe Keynes. This was brought under control fairly quickly and we retuned home just after 17:30.

At 18:20 we were sent to another field fire in Harmans Cross. However this turned out to be quite small and was extinguished quickly.

πŸ”₯🚨 FIRE SHOUT 🚨πŸ”₯

Yesterday evening we were mobilised along with Wareham and other stations to a caravan/tent fire near Norden.
The fire had spread to nearby bushes and gorse and the decision was made early on to get more appliances on scene to deal with the large fire.
The fire was soon brought under control and crews remained on scene into the early hours damping down.

The warm weather is still giving us enough to do.

Just after 09:00 this morning one pump and our Land Rover responded to a small fire in the open near Langton Matravers. Luckily this was brought under control nice and quickly.

After two further re-inspections of Agglestone Heath today, this incident is now closed.

We are currently in a Red wildfire warning and it looks like the warm weather will be continuing into the weekend and maybe longer. So please be careful with garden bbq’s/fire pits/garden candles etc and definitely no BBQ’s in public places.

Thank you
