🎾 Tennis Courts Resurfaced with Astro Turf 🎾

Courts 4 and 5 at Swanage Beach Gardens Sports Park have now been fully resurfaced with astro turf. The improved surface will offer a better playing experience all year round and support the continued growth of tennis in Swanage.

Cllr Chris Tomes, Chairman of the Sport and Leisure Working Party, commented:
“We’re delighted to see Courts 4 and 5 newly resurfaced with modern astro turf, improving the quality and accessibility of tennis facilities for the whole community. The Council is proud to have contributed £15,000 toward this upgrade, and we look forward to seeing residents of all ages make the most of the improved courts. Enhancing local sporting opportunities plays an important role in supporting physical and mental wellbeing, particularly for children and young people, and these improvements will help ensure they have a safe, welcoming space to stay active. Our thanks go to the Tennis Club for their continued partnership and commitment to providing excellent sporting opportunities in Swanage.”

Liz Le Fevre, Swanage Tennis Club Committee Member, added:
“The Tennis Club were very pleased to see the old tarmac tennis courts numbers 4 and 5 resurfaced with new astro turf at the weekend. It means that all 5 courts owned by the Council and used by Swanage Tennis Club and members of the public now have astro turf surfaces. The members of the club were really delighted with the new surface which drains well, is less slippery in wet conditions and dries out quickly. The artificial grass means that play can happen even in the winter. The surface reduces stress on the ankles, knees and hips and if a player does fall over, they have a much softer landing. The Tennis Club wish to thank Swanage Town Council for all their help with this project.”

As the putting and Tea on the Green has closed for the season, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all our wonderful customers for your support and smiles this year 💚

We've loved welcoming you for a round on the green and a cuppa (or two!) on the decking, and we're already looking forward to seeing you again when we reopen for Easter 2026.

Until then, have a lovely winter - we can't wait to share another great season with you next year! 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣

📣🌳🎊 Beach Gardens Retains Green Flag Award for 2025/26! 🎊🌳📣

We are proud to announce that Beach Gardens has once again been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, recognising it as one of the UK’s very best green spaces.

This national award celebrates well-managed parks and green spaces, and we are delighted that Beach Gardens continues to meet the highest standards in environmental management, community involvement, and visitor experience.

🗣 The judges comments were testimony to the hard work and collaboration:

⭐️ “The garden is a really great example of a community asset. The gardening and management team should be congratulated on such a place people really wish to visit.”

⭐️ “Quite outstanding – all staff met on the day were very committed. The gardeners were knowledgeable and fully understood the value of Green Flag.”

⭐️ “Excellent to meet younger gardeners who had a good level of training.”

The judges praised our use of sustainable practices, including peat-free compost, drought-resistant planting, and rewilding initiatives that support biodiversity. The garden’s welcoming atmosphere, well-maintained facilities, and strong community links – particularly through the bowls and tennis clubs – were also highlighted.

This achievement reflects the dedication of our staff and the ongoing support of the local community.

We extend our thanks to everyone who contributes to making Beach Gardens a place of pride and enjoyment for all.
