Heat can be dangerous for everyone, especially older people, young children and people with long-term health conditions.

Walmley Railway Station Site
We have received a number of emails regarding the sale of the land where the old Walmley railway station used to be and whether it would be feaible to reopen it along with the Sutton Park Line.
Along with Cllr David Barrie we looked at this possibility just prior to COVID as the reopening of the Sutton Park Line was and indeed remains a great desire.
At the time we were working with the West Midlands Combined AuthorityWMCA (led by then Mayor Andy Street) as we were aware of the pressures Langley will put on our road network and public transport.
The problem with the Penns Lane location is lack of on site parking and a fear that it would become a destination of choice for many travellers from near and far and cars would end up parked in neighbouring residential streets which I am sure everyone will agree is in itself unacceptable.
To this end and with Langley and these potential parking issues in mind we worked with WMCA to establish a possible location for a proper Park and Ride location and we were successful in finding one near ASDA where a new station could be built along with adequate parking. This location could serve Walmley, Langley and Minworth residents.
A feasibility study was to be carried out but COVID got in the way and there has since been a change of leadership at WMCA.
We have put in a request to find out what happened to that feasibility study etc as wholeheartedly agree that we need Sutton Park Line reopened for passenger use as soon as possible. Obviously in an ideal world 2 new stations would be nice but at same time dont want to create an unacceptable parking issue for residents around Penns Lane location!!
We hope this reassures residents that we are very much aware of the needs to get people on to rail again and we will keep knocking at that door.

The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield’s Annual Civic Service took place this morning and Cllrs Ken Wood and John Perks were pleased to attend.
Civic Sunday is a valued tradition that brings together people from across the Royal Town to reflect, give thanks, and celebrate the many individuals, organisations, and volunteers who make Sutton Coldfield such a special place to live and work.
Cllr Ken Wood said "It's a wonderful service and great to meet up with Town Council colleagues and friends and residents"

Great to attend Walmley Residents Association (WRA) committee eeting tonight. First meeting after the election. As you would expect there was much to discuss and WRA are always committed to getting the best for Walmley. Well we certainly concur with that desire!!

Change of Refuse Collection Day Delayed.
We are aware that a few weeks ago many residents received letters advising that there would be a change of collection day effective from 8th June.
Since then Cllr Wood has caught clarification amid the current lack of administration leadership at Birmingham City Council.
As a result we have been advised that the roll out of the change has been suspended and that collection day will remain as currently in place.
We will of course keep residents informed best we can as and when there are further developments.

Defences against illegal encampments.
Residents may recall that a few months ago Cllr Ken Wood raised a petition asking Birmingham City Council to carry out maintenance and improvements to measures currently in case to protect our green open spaces. Following submission of the petition, that was signed by many residents, the feedback was BCC felt there was no need to do anything at this time!
On Tuesday, following concerns raised by a resident, Cllr Ken Wood paid another visit to inspect things and as a result has requested urgent attention at one location and will be monitoring other locations very closely.
We will always do our best to get things done.

Great stuff Robin and a great cause as well.

Great stuff Robin and a great cause as well.

Tomorrow is a big day for Town Councillor Robin Cook as he takes on the annual Sutton Fun Run!
Robin is raising money for the Friends of Stephens Pond, a fantastic local group that works tirelessly to improve and maintain this valued community space. Every penny raised is reinvested back into our local area, helping to support projects and activities for residents to enjoy.
We will be there cheering Robin on every step of the way and wish him the very best of luck for the challenge ahead.
If you are able to, please consider sponsoring Robin. Your support will help make a real difference in our community.
Good luck, Robin – we're all behind you!
