I would like to express my most sincere thanks to all Sutton Vesey residents who supported us at the recent elections. Regrettably, Charlotte and I were not elected to the City Council, and that brings an end to 14 years where we have had Labour representation on the City Council from Sutton Vesey. Winning in 2012 was a shock that made history and I’ll for ever be grateful to residents for that triumph. I’m sorry that has all now come to a final end.

But it was great to see Charlotte and Alex won seats on the Sutton Town Council for the first time! And Manish was also re-elected as our opposition Labour Leader on the Town. Charlotte becomes the youngest Councillor on the Town, a great result from a campaigner for the future. Sadly Max was not re-elected and Paul missed out too. But we still hold the majority (3 of the 5 seats) in Sutton Vesey on the Town Council, an excellent result on such a difficult night for Labour nationally. Many thanks to all residents who helped pull off that outstanding result!

Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident at the Lanes Shopping Centre.

Residents and visitors should avoid the area. If you have any information or footage, please submit at orlo.uk/Kb7kB.

My thoughts are with the victim, who remains in hospital.

| We’re investigating after a man was shot near Sutton Coldfield this morning.

It happened near The Lanes Shopping Centre on Birmingham Road, Wylde Green, at around 7.30am.

The victim, in his 30s, was taken to hospital where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

We have a large police presence in the area and, drivers should find alternative routes.

The investigation is at an early stage, and anyone with information is asked to get in touch via 101 quoting log 667.
