Good Hope Hospital NHS Welcome to Good Hope Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB).

Please note, we cannot answer health or treatment questions via this page. Good Hope Hospital is based in Sutton Coldfield and is part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB). Good Hope Hospital serves North Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and a large part of south east Staffordshire, including Burntwood, Lichfield and Tamworth. UHB also runs Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Solihull Hospital and Community Services and Birmingham Chest Clinic. The Trust also runs a number of smaller satellite units, enabling people to be treated as close to home as possible. As one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, UHB serves a regional, national and international population. The Trust sees and treats more than 2.2 million people every year across our sites and our hospitals deliver more babies than anywhere else in Europe.

Patients nearing the end of their lives at Good Hope Hospital are receiving comfort, companionship and support through a new Marie Curie Companion Service, helping ensure no one faces their final days alone. πŸ’œ

The service has been introduced as part of an ongoing partnership between University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), leading end-of-life charity, Marie Curie UK and Birmingham City Council.

Specially trained companions spend time with patients approaching the end of life and also offer reassurance and support to families and carers.

Since launching at the hospital earlier this year, the service has been supporting patients on Wards 9, 10, 11, 12, 15 and 24.

Alongside providing a compassionate presence, companions can direct patients and families to a range of support services, including bereavement support, chaplaincy services and the Pets in Hospital scheme.

Katie-Ann Rotheroe, End of Life and Bereavement Clinical Nurse Specialist, said: β€œThe companions complement the care provided by our ward teams and help ensure that patients and families feel supported at what can be a tremendously difficult time. They do an amazing job, and we are very grateful for the time and support they give to patients.” 🫢

A message from Cadent Gas - road closure outside The Bottle of Sack public house in Sutton town centre.

Cadent engineers will be carrying out emergency gas repair works following reports of a smell of gas from a member of the public. The works are essential to ensure the continued safety of the local community and the integrity of the gas network.

Work will begin on the evening of Wednesday 14 October and engineers will be working through the night to complete the repair as quickly as possible while minimising disruption to residents, businesses, and road users. Cadent is aiming to have the site fully cleared by Friday 16 October.

The repairs are being carried out in response to a reported gas escape and require immediate attention to ensure public safety. While every effort is being made to reduce the impact on the local community, some disruption is unavoidable during the works.

A Cadent spokesperson said: "Safety is always our top priority. Following a report of a smell of gas, our engineers need to carry out urgent repairs to the gas network on Birmingham Road. We understand these works will cause disruption, and we'd like to thank residents and road users for their patience while we complete this essential repair.

"To help minimise the impact on the local community, our teams will be working overnight to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible. These repairs are vital to keep the area safe and maintain a reliable gas supply for local homes and businesses."

Cadent apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the community for its understanding while these urgent safety works are completed.’’

Please see map below, supplied by Cadent, which shows the road closure outside The Bottle of Sack as the red hatched area. The diversion will be down Holland Road, onto Upper Holland Road and around onto Queen Street to reach the roundabout next to Nando's.

This gentle and reflective service offers a safe space for anyone affected by baby loss to come together, honour the memory of their babies, and find comfort among others who understand. To mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week, families are also invited to take part in the Wave of Light on Thursday 15 October, lighting a candle in remembrance. University Hospitals Birmingham Charity has created a special online dedication page, Wave of Light, where families light a candle to commemorate their babies who sadly died too soon.

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day, and this year we're shining a light on the importance of connection, support and looking after our wellbeing.

In this special β€˜We are UHB’ blog, Lisa Smith, Deputy Clinical Site Manager at Good Hope Hospital, shares her 25-year nursing journey and reflects on the importance of resilience, friendship and community support.

Lisa also talks about her involvement with the Empty Chairs initiative, which brings people together to have conversations, reduce loneliness and help those who may be struggling with their mental health.

Through her volunteering, she has seen first-hand the difference that a simple conversation can make.
